"We discovered Barwaqo, its new name, while on our way to the Electric Fetus for a book signing. The restaurant recently changed ownership (in October 2023), so previous reviews under the name Cala are no longer applicable. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and the staff, and we enjoyed an incredible dinner featuring Somali chicken and rice, sambusa, spinach with roasted goat, and a fava bean soup accompanied by glutinous rice cakes. Everything was fresh, delicious, and clearly made with care, and our entire meal cost around $45. We were excited to have taken a chance on this unknown gem and will definitely return. After our meal, I spoke with the owner outside, and when I asked one of the staff members about the meaning of "Barwaqo" in Somali, he said it means "gift." However, when I looked it up, it translates to "prosperity." I highly recommend taking a chance on this spot at the corner of Clinton and Franklin instead of opting for the Wendy's across the street!"
