"A staff member who introduced herself as Jenny was incredibly pretentious and rude when I asked her a few simple questions—it was truly shocking. She radiated an unfriendly energy, rolling her eyes and sighing dramatically before I even spoke to her, yet she positioned herself at the counter where I was trying to place my order. After her dismissive and passive-aggressive responses to my basic inquiries, I realized talking to her was pointless. I decided to give up on ordering anything from the kitchen and planned to grab food elsewhere. I walked to the other side of the store to check out with an alternative cashier, expecting to evade further interaction with Jenny, given how unkind she had been. However, she followed me and stood right between me and the gentleman behind the smoothie counter as I tried to ask him to check me out instead. I told her I didn’t want her help and asked if someone else could assist me, but she blatantly ignored my request. She made condescending remarks about how I was upset because an item I wanted wasn’t available, when in reality, my only concern was the bizarre hostility I was facing from a complete stranger. When I asked her why she was being rude, she simply laughed and claimed she wasn’t doing anything, but she never changed her demeanor. Throughout my attempt to check out, she stared at me like an angry lizard. Instead of waiting for me to use the credit card machine like a normal person, she rudely reached over and pressed the buttons herself, causing so much confusion that we had to start the transaction over. Perhaps she had dealt with a difficult customer before me and couldn’t separate that experience from her interactions? Or maybe she just treats everyone poorly? I asked her again why her behavior was so strange, and she insisted that I was the odd one. I’m not certain if “Jenny” is her real name; she was quite short, had dark hair, wore lipstick, and seemed to be in her 20s or 30s. I was having a good day until I walked into the Oaks. I believe people come to cafes to relax and recharge, not to be the emotional dumping ground for someone who’s having a bad day or is simply unfriendly. I can only assume that employees like her don't show this side to their managers, because if they did, I can't imagine why they would keep her employed; unfriendly staff are detrimental to a small business. I have to guess that the sandwiches here are still really good, but I can’t say for sure—I didn’t get that far."

"I rarely have given a bad review on Yelp. I have been to the Refectory three times in the last year. The first time (Jan 2023) for brunch the food was good except my poached eggs were very undercooked white runny egg whites. The second time for dinner (August 2023) the food was terrible burger was over cooked and had some sauce on it, fries also came with a bizarre sauce that was not explained on the menu. The third time (September 2023) for brunch my toast was burned, my scrambled eggs tasted like institutional eggs made from a mix, and my husband's over easy eggs were raw and we sent them back only to have his plate reappear without the toast (also burnt) originally on it, and a hash brown ordered for the table once again came with a bizarre sauce covering them that is not mentioned on the menu and was not on the hash brown when I had it in January (we sent it back). The waitstaff is kind and it is a beautiful room, but the quality of the food is just terrible some of this might be improved if the menu wasn't so unclear. If something is smothered in some type of sauce, explain that on the menu. Eggs should never have clear whites and be undercooked I don't even understand how this could leave the kitchen, or how burnt toast could leave the kitchen. Everything seems to be undercooked or overcooked. Too many not well explained sauces they should be optional or on the side always. We have given The Refectory a few tries but I think sadly that we won't be back."

"I ate a delicious New Year's Eve late lunch yesterday [12-31-2021] at Pat and Gracie's [at 340 E. Gay St. in downtown Columbus].One previous lunchtime [perhaps one year ago], I had stopped at that Pat and Gracie's [I am only occasionally in that neighborhood] hoping to be able to eat lunch there. They had been so crowded at that moment that I could barely fit into the front door so I decided to return on a less-crowded day; yesterday ended up being that less-crowded day.I had previously studied the Pat and Gracie's menu on-line and had already selected the following item: Peruvian Chicken 16.79]: whole half chicken marinated in olive oil, lime juice, garlic, cumin, paprika then oven-roasted until tender, juicy, and crisp-skinned; served with a spicy cilantro jalapeno green sauce on a bed of house made mashed potatoes and asparagus.Rather than being handed a physical menu after I had arrived at my table, I was given a three-inch-square laminated QR code to scan with my smartphone. I ordered my food by speaking my choice out loud to the server [rather than touching anything on my smartphone as I had briefly imagined would happen].That location never has asparagus in stock [at least according to my server]; broccoli had been an acceptable substitute for asparagus. After I had ordered my food, I walked around the restaurant briefly outside and inside so that I would be able to take several pictures to post to Google Maps; my food was brought to my table before I had finished taking pictures. This is actually my first time [I have now posted more than 1,500 photographs to Google Maps] when I have taken a photograph of my plate of food before starting to eat it.The Peruvian Chicken had been absolutely delicious; the mashed potatoes had been definitely real in that a spoon inserted into those mashed potatoes would stand up without falling over.A half chicken had been far more food than I would be able to eat in one meal so my server provided to me a box and a plastic bag so that I would be able to take the second half of my Peruvian Chicken home and then eat it at home within the next few days.I definitely plan to return to Pat and Gracie's when I am in that neighborhood."
