"I was hyped to try a good ole fashioned diner in a small town in Texas. I had high hopes of eating a delicious homestyle hamburger just like mama used to make. The reviews for Johnny Rebs Dixie Cafe were good so I took a short detour to grab a bite to eat. The waitresses were friendly enough when it came to greeting us and serving our food; however, I felt uneasy because I saw absolutely no African-Americans working in this restaurant. This struck me as odd because Hearne, Texas, sho' enough has plenty of African-Americans living and working in that town. Perhaps, things would have looked differently on a different day of the week. On to the food. We ordered one hamburger and one cheeseburger with extra crispy French fries and two lemonades. My beef patty was thin and slightly overcooked, but I ate it. Our dinner cost over $30.00. The burgers were edible, but not delicious. The fries were neither hot nor extra crispy. The complimentary bread basket was a plus. The cornbread muffins were delicious. The cornbread was sweet with good texture and just enough crunchiness on the outer edges of the muffin. Overall, I rate my dining experience as a 2.5."
