"I have not been a Mad Mex in years. Took some family members today. Horrible is an understatement. The salsa with the chips was dry and bland looked old. We asked for queso it was $10 for salsa mixed with nacho cheese, their version of queso. The margaritas were bitter and the waitress said that’s how top shelf tequila is. We never asked for top shelf anything. The burrito I got had no flavor. It was just white rice black beans and chicken. With a side of the old salsa. The quesadilla was also bland with no flavor and it was cold. All told 77 dollars for horrible food and an unenthusiastic waitress. I will not be returning."

"Tonight, my daughter had a fundraiser for her service trip, and we chose Mad Mex. It was an excellent experience! The food was outstanding, and our server was fantastic—I'm sorry I can't recall his name. He was tall and bald, and he really took care of us. The manager, whose name I also can’t remember, was equally wonderful. They both ensured we had everything we needed. And I have to mention, even though I'm not a fan of chocolate, the brownies were absolutely divine! We will definitely return for dinner again."

"This was my first visit to the restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant, the workers were nice and the overall experience was positive. The menu is very vegetarian friendly and lets you know what is or can be made vegetarian. All of this means nothing if the food isn't good. It wasn't terrible, it just tasted like the cook seasoned it badly. I ordered the Herb O'vore's tofu tacos. The tofu was cooked well but marinated in a bar-b-que like mixture. That is the best I can describe it. It tasted decent but did not go well with the tacos. They were pretty bland as well, there was an odd flavor that overpowered the tomatoes that were in the tacos. Decent place overall, I may or may not return to give them a second chance. It means a lot for me to find a vegetarian friendly place. Even with that, the food has to be good. Otherwise the options mean nothing."

"This is your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. I?m giving it 5 stars because we?ve never had bad service here, and I?ve been coming to this location for over 21 years now. If you?re looking for ?real? Mexican food, there are certainly more authentic joints in the greater Pittsburgh area. What I love about Mad Mex is that it?s near the museums and Pitt which we visit often being alumni, and the prices are very reasonable for the portions you get. If you come at peak times, you will wait as this location is small. But hey, if you choose to come when it?s busy, then exercise some patience and restraint with your review. At any rate, thanks Josh for a pleasant experience today. Wish you all the best with your studies at Pitt."

"I usually only have positive things to say about Mad Mex Waterworks but this time I was disappointed. We visited late on Saturday, June 3rd. Earlier in the evening, the restaurant must have been slammed. You could tell that the staff was recovering from a tough shift. However, that doesn't excuse subpar service.First, the table beside us (two women with two kids) were clearly over served. It was obvious. Their table was a mess and they downed shots before stumbling out. But before they left one of the women crowded our table and chatted us up. I didn't really mind her but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned over whether they were driving home or not. As I said, they were visibly and obviously over served drinks.Our waitress was miserable. Short, rude, unwelcoming and she rushed us through our meal. I could hear her sighing and muttering to herself while she cleaned tables off around us.Our food and drinks were not the usual quality that Mad Mex delivers. I definitely do not suggest visiting late. If it is so difficult to maintain service and quality as the evening goes on then maybe management should just close earlier like other restaurants in the area."

"Never the type to leave negative reviews , but the waitress annd customer service experience I just had was HORRIBLE!! Avoid waitress “ Grace “ by all means !! She barely made eye contact and checked up with order . I understand that we all have our off days but walking by several times without asking if we were ok was disrespectful and off putting . I anticipated a great few happy hour drinks and meal . Menu says 1/2 off drafts and margaritas and wings . These were all items we rushed to buy several Of within the last hour . Only to be told at end of meal , the type Of beer and margarita ordered was different than half hour promotion . After years of frequenting this particular mad Mex location it seems staff and management has changed and not for the best . Oh Pgh , please be more considerate and treat your customers more human and respectable ."

"Our waitress was the BOMB. I wish I remembered her name. To my knowledge it was along the lines of Donna or Diana. She had me and my sister ROLLING from the moment we set ourselves when we were gone! Everything was brought out so fast, was skrumdidlyumpt and she also gave us a million laughs in the process. When we finished our meal, I had cut my finger and tried to push my thing at the edges of the removal container and it was past a FLASH with disinfectant and a band agent. She didn't just clean it and packed it for me without even asking it (she was SUV a mother and I LOVED IT) but she kept us still laughing all the time. Perfect experience!!! Come back DEFINITELY! I just need to bring a cardigan if I don't drink because it's so cold in lol."
