"Used to frequent Whip In pretty often about 7-8 years ago w/ some baseball teammates of mine after games. This was my first time back in many years, and I was looking forward to it. Came in after a Friday night baseball game just looking to grab some food to go since I was flying solo. I checked google to make sure they were still open, and to my delight, they were open til 11 pm. Got there at 9:35. Sat at the bar. Told the bartender that I was going to order some food to go, but would grab a beer while I waited. She poured me a beer while I checked the menu, which seemed to be the same as years prior. Saw what I wanted and was ready to order almost immediately, but the bartender had since disappeared. After a couple minutes, she came back, and I tried to get her attention, but she didn 't look in my direction. She then assisted the only other two patrons at the bar, so I waited patiently until I could get her attention. I finally did and told her what food I wanted. As I was ordering, she simply said, kitchen 's closed and walked away. Never saw her again. Hungry and confused, I just sat there and finished my beer. The patron sitting at the bar a few seats over from me then ordered some food (and got it) 5 minutes after me. It 's too bad that Whip In, like so many Austin staples, has seemingly plummeted in recent years. I was about to spend over $100 on food and beer to go. I was also going to bring 12-15 of my teammates there to drink and eat after our next game. Guess we 'll have to go somewhere else that wants our money instead. The 1 star is for the Whip In of many years ago.Edit: after reading a bunch of reviews, it seems like I actually dodged a bullet by the miserable bartender not taking my food order."

"First off, I put 3 stars for atmosphere because it is casual and kind of plain. At night, when the bar is in action, it 's more cool and modern, plus there are nice decorations from the owner 's home country around. Both times I was there I loved the chill playlist. But... the real deal about here is the food. GO NOW! My partner and I stumbled on this place just reading the menu in the window. We are vegetarian and wondered if the small menu would be expansive enough. I think they have a smallish menu so they can do the dishes they do perfectly. Each thing we had was spiced perfectly and individually and nothing tasted like anything else. What was supposed to be crispy was crispy, the vegetables were not broken down and soupy, the sauces weren 't gloppy gravies... the cooking was top-tier. We got special sides and I wish they were all constant menu items. The green beans were roasted and slightly charred, tossed with ginger slivers and toasted garlic and chili flakes and garnished with cilantro and radish. That 's a lot of effort for one dish! The palak paneer was in a light refreshing sauce and the spinach was firm, and the cheese was fried perfectly. The rice that came with it was lemony, and the raita tasted cool and fresh. The dressing for the salad was a standout, with mustard and tiny red onion dice and citrus... I would go back for the salad alone.... I thought it would be fine, a salad and it was an exciting dish. The best thing we had was collards with kohlrabi (kind of like turnip) in a deep-tasting smoky spicy sauce that was light, not stewy. The greens were tender and not cooked to death. And guess what? It is CHEAP for what it is. Really reasonable for such elevated dishes. They also have a good cocktail list. Don 't be afraid of the unfamiliarity of the menu. I swear to you this will become a place you return again and again and will rave to your friends about. I wish it would move to NYC where I live. I will dream about this placeVegetarian options: Good choices available even though it 's a smaller menu and has also lots of meat dishes"
