"My husband tried the Veggie pho with vegetable broth, and it was simply boiled vegetables in water—completely flavorless and devoid of any pho spices or even salt. We also shared a meatball banh mi and a Cha Lua banh mi, both of which were the worst I’ve had in San Antonio. The bread was a standard hoagie roll; although it was slightly toasted, it lacked the fluffy interior and flaky crust of a proper French baguette. There was no pate, no soy sauce, no pickled carrots or daikon, and only a hint of mayo, with tiny slices of cucumber. The meatballs were bland, falling apart, and they didn’t come with tomato sauce (which is typically included in Vietnamese meatball sandwiches, just not the American-style tomato sauce). The Cha Lua banh mi had two large pieces of dry Cha Lua, which should be soft and moist, instead of being sliced thin like deli meat. Plus, it had whole peppercorns, which I didn’t enjoy, although some might like that. The prices were also quite high for the quality of food served here. There are other Vietnamese restaurants in the area offering better food at lower prices. The ambiance felt a bit disjointed, as if the place had been renovated in bits and pieces by different individuals with varying design styles (evident in the mismatched floor tiles). The menus had prices crossed out with no updated figures provided, leaving us in the dark about costs. Handwritten phone numbers added to the overall impression of unprofessionalism. At least they offer vegetarian options, even if they're lackluster."
