"After working briefly in Westville today, I was heading back to Illinois....starving. I couldn't stomach pizza at Casey's again, or McDonald's etc. I figured I would wait til I got near Gary, but I checked the GPS anyway. Up came Sweet Lou's. I couldn't remember ever seeing it at the location on the GPS, but went anyway, and they were open for carry out! That's a bonus in coronavirus times. The place is friendly and has a strong Chicago suburban vibe. It's like a mini Portillo's in some way (hey, it's one half of a gas station, that's pretty damn cool). The menu was huge, took a few minutes to decide....many good offerings. Eventually I settled in on a cod sandwich fries. Took about 10 minutes but that's ok, it was fresh made. Counter assistance was very helpful and respectful. Well, a few bites into the cod sandwich and I was sold! Delicious! Plenty of crisp lettuce, tomatoes and sauces. The fries are apparently fresh cut, not some frozen generic ****. Flavorful~! The bun was toasted and very tasty. I think I found my new stopping point for lunch on the days when I work in Westville~! Meal including the drink was $10 range. I'd imagine the rest of the food would be just as good. Seems like they take a lot of pride in the preparation. I will be trying them again soon. A great business, worth the stop off of I 80/90 if you are passing by just a few blocks south of the Interstate. Look for the BP gas station, they are part of that."
