"I never wrote any unpleasant reviews about any business, I always try to find understandable situations for the owners or service persons. This time I feel I have the obligation to share my bad experiences in order to help the majority be healthy! I have been to this restaurant 3 times, last night the foot really made me feel sick for a long time. I ordered Red Phoenix Imperial Jumbo shrimp, scallops and chicken tender sauteed with snow peas, mushroom, carrots and broccoli in soy-ginger sauce. At The beginning of eating, I noticed it wasn 't cooked well, and asked the manager, she explained that it was normal. I felt I should not bother them and kept eating half of it, on the way home I felt something wrong with my stomach, I had to rest myself on the coach after I got home, middle of night I threw up and had a bad headache too. 2 am now, my stomach tells me I need to write about my bad experiences in order to prevent others from suffering unknowingly, Seafood didn 't cook well, which wasn 't healthy for anyone. Especially they didn 't add real ginger or garlic, or onion or green onion. This restaurant didn 't cook real Chinese food. Because the lady said they have been there over 17 years? They trained those Chef Over 17 years? She said the Chinese chef didn 't like to cook there? Why? They use Chinese Food names as Chinese Restaurant, Hire unqualified or cheaper Chef to Cook faked Chinese food to fool the majority of Americans ! I 'm not a chef, but I always use Ginger or Garlic, or green onion if I cook Seafood, in order to prevent the stomach from getting sick. But last night My Seafood combination there didn 't use any of those spices for health issues or for tasty , especially because they didn 't cook well. I really Hope the Owner Can Teach Chef there to use Ginger or Garlic, or onion for their Seafood in order to prevent their customers from getting stomach sick slowly in case it doesn 't cook well or Seafood isn 't fresh.."

"I’ve been to many vegan restaurants around United States and most of the vegan restaurants in the Detroit area and Ann Arbor area, with that being said I had high hopes for this restaurant because of the high ratings. First let’s talk about the service. My first visit our waitress forgot about us when we got there because I don’t think she knew she had a table so we sat there for about 20 minutes with nothing u til we said who is out waitress then someone was sent over. Once we placed our order and received our food which took about 35 minutes to get which isn’t to bad but on the longer side, the food was bland, flavorless, and what you would imagine vegan food tasted like 50 years ago before the art of great chefs and flavors collided with vegan cooking. We had a table of four and every person at the table had some kind of issue with their meal, i’ve never experienced before because usually were impressed with vegan cooking especially in Michigan lately. The bill came to $89 for four meals two were dinners two were light meals and three drinks. The second visit because I thought maybe the first time I didn’t get a chance to get something I liked so about six months later I went again with my husband. He was hopeful because of the pictures and reviews on yelp. Sadly he and I were once again scratching our heads on why this place was rated one of the best vegan places in royal oak. Our waitress would barely smile and acted like I was putting her out when I asked where our appetizer was that she forgo and had come out with our meal. My drink was empty before the meal and ever asked to refill or purchase another. The spaghetti had large wheat noodles that were a tad hard, the chili was good and filling, the Blue tortilla chips I loved but they heat the salsa which was gross it tasted like I was dipping my tortilla chips in hot marinara sauce. My burger was good and filling but on the bland side but still good for a vegan burger. The coleslaw was basically chopped up cabbage with little season, taste, or sauce. I really wanted to love this place it is literally one bock from my house but I hate to say it’s just not a place I would ever want to go to ever again."

"I jumped in my car with only 20 minutes til closing time, hoping all the way of my 5 minute drive, they would still give me a takeout order. Even though it took me 6 minutes to get there, I ran in and asked if I could still get an order To Go. The 2 very sweet girls at the counter looked at each other and then they both nodded at me, Yes . I could still place an order To Go. Thank goodness! I ordered the Mediterranean Platter, a wonderful Medley of Hummus, Beet Salad, Baba Ganouj, 3 Falafel Patties, 3 Stuffed Grape Leaves, Tabbouleh and a generous serving of Pita Bread. I went back and forth on the Black Bean Chili and finally decided to add it to my order... and I'm sure glad I did because it was absolutely hands-down delicious! It had caught my eye on the menu because it said Oil-Free Chili. I can tell you I am definitely coming back for the Chili and the Falafels... Well, the Hummus was really excellent and so was the Beet Salad, another winner! Okay, maybe I'd better just cover all my bases and say, Everything... I mean EVERYTHING... was absolutely delicious! The Tahini was so creamy and light you are just floating on air when you eat it. I also love the special Vegetarian section on the menu and they can make your meal Vegan too with a few food omissions. If you like Mediterranean Food, I think you'd better put this cafe at the top of your list, because I sure am. Every time we're in Santa Rosa, I'm going to make it a point to stop at the East West Cafe. Not only is the food good, but you should see the gorgeous desserts they have in their display case (See Photo). The only thing I will do differently next visit is to dine-in! It feels so good in there, with extra high ceilings and intriguing wall hangings. I couldn't help noticing the several small interesting turquoise plaques grouped on the wall by the door, and similar groupings also on several other walls. I was told by one of the girls who took my order that each turquoise plaque was a different prayer. They are so interesting and individually beautiful in their own unique way, you will want to have a closer look at each wall grouping when you come in. And the service here is so hospitable that these precious ladies offered me a glass of water while I waited for my Takeout order. She even thought about the fact that I was just coming from a movie, on our way to Santa Rosa from Novato, and confirmed with me that I would indeed need forks and spoons with napkins for my Takeout meal. I really like that kind of thoughtfulness. It makes you feel like they really care about you... AND what you'll need to have a pleasant experience while eating THEIR food... even if it's Takeout. So, although I could not dine-in the cafe tonight, I am definitely coming back for the full-service experience next time... because I can already tell from their conscienious, genuine old-world hospitality, it's going to be a phenomenal meal in a spiritually significant environment served by kind, wonderfully present individuals. Thank you so much wonderful chefs and staff in restaurant service here... And special thanks to the owners of this spiritually-driven culinary cafe for creating this refined dining experience for your appreciative patrons!"
