"I 've dined at NYDN frequently since it opened, and I have had only two bad experiences. One was the most recent visit. When we arrived at 9:45am on a Sunday, the restaurant was nearly empty. Typically, our food arrives far more quickly than I ever expect. This time, it did not. I ordered the Challah French Toast which arrived lukewarm at best. I 'm guessing it sat under the warming lights for a while. Later, after we had finished eating, our waitress stopped by the table, and I requested a container. For the next 20 minutes, I watched her take orders, serve meals, pour coffee, etc. When she brought the container, we asked for our check. She asked if we 'd be paying by cash or credit card. Another 5 minutes or so went by until she returned with the hand-held device to take our credit card payment. I typically never tip less than 20%, but I was so upset by her overall unfriendly attitude and the 20-minute wait to get a take-away container, that I tipped only 10%. I needed a receipt, which she got from the front desk (2 steps from where we were sitting) and practically threw it on the table. Perhaps she is unaware that the word TIPS is an acronym for to insure perfect service. As I said, I have enjoyed NYDN for many, many years, so this experience won 't keep me from returning. I will, however, ask to be seated somewhere other than where she is working."

"PROs: Great burgers, I mean really good and every topping one could want. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Cooks obviously take pride in what they put out and it shows. Fries are fresh cut and although a little undercooked this visit, they have been usually pretty good in previous visits. CONS: It only takes one bad apple as they say. Cashier/order taker here today was beyond unenthused to be here or likely working anywhere for that matter. Bad day? Maybe. Or perhaps customer service and presenting ones self training is needed. No smile, sort of displayed an I don 't give a sh! body language, and came across very bland in questions about what toppings my wife and I wanted . She made my wife and I feel like an inconvenience. Quite a contrast to those preparing the food who were working hard. A further example is when I ordered no bun for my burger, but asked it be wrapped in lettuce instead. She asked if it was allergy related or personal preference in the same flippant low tone. Not a bad question if she would have went on to explain something cheerfully like, the reason I ask is so if it is an allergy, we don 't want your burger on the griddle where bread was . Leaving that part out came across judgemental with her tone. Fortunately I got it, but not sure others would have. Additionally tables were dirty and there were flies everywhere which is signs of either a backdoor being left open or standing water/drains not being bleached. I have gone to other locations and can generally say for a burger place they were really good in service and quality. I won 't write off 5 Guys, but I would likely go to an other location and will be unlikely to come back to the Winthrop store."
