"It’s a drive thru coffee hut, so atmosphere doesn’t really apply. Two-sided and tidy place! The barista made an excellent oatmilk latte and the bagel breakfast sandwich was hot, delicious, and frankly so satisfying, it served as both my breakfast and lunch. I appreciated that they accommodated my desire for egg cheese. (Who knows with the meats on it, it might have been a dinner too! The latte did seem to take a bit longer than elsewhere, so bring your patience. Good things do come to those who wait for it here. If you are in a rush, maybe keep to a simpler beverage- thus, really just a half star off on service for the longer wait."

The best biscuits and gravy I have ever tasted! The biscuit is soft and sits atop the most incredible sausage gravy—it's just the right consistency, not too thick and not too thin.

The coffee and breakfast sandwiches here are outstanding! The staff is consistently friendly, and the location is fantastic. The Croissant Breakfast Sandwich is a particular favorite of mine!

One of the best lattes I've ever had! This review focuses solely on the latte, as we didn't sample anything else. It had four shots of espresso, and the milk-to-espresso ratio was just perfect.

Had an absolutely wonderful breakfast sandwich here as we were headed from Talkeetna back to Anchorage.Parking: Plenty of space to park. It is a drive-through service, but we could park and eat if you didn't want to balance everything while you drive. View menu

This delightful drive-through coffee hut offers a wide selection of espresso beverages. The star of the menu is definitely the vanilla latte, although they tend to favor a darker roast. The staff is very friendly, but keep in mind that there is no dine-in option available. Food: 5/5

The service at this restaurant was truly exceptional, with such friendly staff! I really enjoyed my bagel; it was delicious and toasted to perfection. However, both my husband's and my coffee were overcooked—really burnt, in fact. We could hardly drink our lattes! I'm a bit disappointed since this place had received so many glowing reviews. That said, the warmth of the staff definitely stood out. Food rating: 4/5.

"I’ve been coming to Talkeetna since 2008, and I’ve been to The Flying Squirrel about 4-5 times and each time I go, it takes me years to go back, kind of like I hear about women getting pregnant after the memory of child birth wears off!??The bakery goods are always yummy and the items you order are usually pretty good if they get the order right. However, I saw a few comments in other reviews of good service which blows my mind…this, along with the high prices is why don’t come often. We have a cabin in Talkeetna and I come 5-6 times a summer and yet I’ve been 4-5 times since 2008!This time it was about 10:30am and I we were starting a hike late so I thought it wouldn’t be busy so we would be in and out quick! Not so fast my friend! We had one couple in line in front of us who finished ordering about 30 seconds after we got there. While the person who took their order started working the coffee machine, it took her or anyone else in the kitchen 8 minutes to even acknowledge we were at the counter, which was why I hesitated to go back! In all, over 30 minutes to get a few bakery items and a breakfast sandwich. Meanwhile 3-4 other ladies milling around in the kitchen doing something, some of the time couldn’t be bothered with customer service while the soul person working the counter is up to all kinds of gyrations on the coffee machine and customers just stand in line like Russians in the ‘80’s waiting for bread, and stand, and stand, and stand…it might be 5 years before I go back again, and I’ll regret it again. At least the service is consistent since I first visited in about 2008 or 2010? I liked the comment: capitalists pricing and a Marxist experience! Nailed it with far fewer words. My hope is that management will be responsive to my review and create a much more efficient customer service experience. I’ll be back late August to try the Flying Squirrel again and if they respond I would love to update my review!!"

"Nostalgic small café in the forest. I like the idea behind this place. Natural, organic, “REAL FOOD” from scratch. It is a GREAT target, but food must also taste well. I'm always a matcha girl, but I didn't like the matcha here. It tasted more water instead of creamy. And it had a spicy touch of taste, like a spicy chai, but with much more kick. I personally don't think the flavors go well together, but then again I like my matcha on the sweet side, sometimes with a splash of coconut. I enjoy the Mexican chocolate chai, it tasted, not far from how I had imagined it, and I enjoyed the kick that it had nice together since the note pairs but wished it had a little more cream. The quiche was pretty good, my children enjoyed it, but I wasn't a fan of crust that was the part I was most happy since it was gluten-free. It was extremely dry and even hard to cut. I think it was made with corn flour. Personally, I would go with a fluffy acid cream gf “pee” crust. There are many ways to make it, but I do mine with an all purpose gluten-free flour, baking powder, salt, butter, acid cream, etc. It would pair with this quiche tastefully. The eggs were the perfect texture. It said it came with meat, but the generous ‘snell’ I only got a few very small pieces. But as I know, not every disc will be the same, so maybe I just ended up with a missing disc. I would have enjoyed more meat than on the pictures. It also came with gluten-free bread. They were also very generous with the bread slices, which were mostly end pieces, but nevertheless good. However, since the Gf-Brot is a denser, dry bread, instead of a soft moist bread, I would have preferred to heat up a little more because they were REALLY hard, like cardboard, but after they took home, they heated up and add some butter, they were pleasant. I also ordered a sandwich that doesn't look like that on Facebook. I don't know if I'd get it again. As a bread I had to take it apart and heat the bread together with meat, so it was not so dry. I was especially pleased with the balsamic sauce, but it was not quite enough for dry gluten-free bread and as you can see on the photos, it was only on one side of the sandwich that left the other side bland. So I had to take it home and add some taste and more sauce I had finished to whistle. Originally my favorite thing was the carrot ginger soup. It was supposed to be the special, but at $10.50, not including taxes and tip, it wasn't even worth a quarter of it. I took it home and added some taste. I started with a pink Himalayan salt, a little cinnamon, cardamom might have been good, but I decided against it. I also wanted to make it a little sweet and creamy, so I had some homemade sweet cream that I had, and it completely changed the whole taste of the soup. My children even fought about it! I took a photo of it, after some stirring in the cream and it even looks tastier. It was 10 out of 10 after some tweaking. I can say with confidence that the ingredients they used were in any case real/natural and at the end made it for a delicious soup. You have a really wide choice of options, not only drinks, but also food. Even beer and wine. Your pizzas I've seen online look really good. I don't drink coffee, but my friend said she was good. They also had a decent selection of candy. I'm not a big fan of sugary foods, but thought as I was on my way, it would be nice to get a few gf treats. It's delicious. My favorite was their fudge/chocolate bars, definitely a guilty pleasure and probably the cream of the harvest for chocolate fanatics. I suggest trying a dessert and maybe some for the road. I want to be clear, I recommend trying this cafe, but I believe constructive criticism from customers who keep going places like these can only help grow and make greater. I would like to try again, down the street and even my rating from 4 stars to 5."
