"Edit: stupidly didn't check the bill before handing credit card. Got charged for sour cream we never ordered. $2.50.....Too annoyed to stick around and get it fixed. Pros: chicken was good, brussel sprouts are suprb, drinks are very tasty, price is pretty fair and atmosphere is defiently fun. Con: service was very eh and it took FOREVER to get our food. Legit 45 minutes. Also the curtains blocking the door are stupid and causes people to run into others. Saturday night, get sit down relatively quick but it was 10 minutes before our server showed. Ordered food and drinks all at once. Food shows up after 45 minutes which when we asked about where is our food he says they are backed up 30 to 45 mins). Because of the chips and drinks weren't very hungry to enjoy the meal which tastes pretty good. The brussel sprouts then came out another 10 mins after which were comped. Then trying to leave it was another 12 mins before our server came for the check after he had taking our food. Never got any water refills during the meal. Won't return. Would give 2.5 stars of I could for drinks, atmosphere, and food taste. Also the rice could def be improved."

One of a kind. Very nice food, cozy place, and they are open late! Great happy hour options as well.

Matador is a lively place with an amazing happy hour. While the Westside location has a slight edge, the food and ambiance are exceptional overall.

The service was outstanding, and I want to highlight that. However, the food didn’t meet the usual standards during my visit. The nachos with chorizo were excessively salty, and the tortilla soup was served lukewarm. I would never ask a restaurant to reheat a dish, as I worry about potential additional ingredients being included. View menu

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was fantastic, although I would have appreciated slightly bigger portions. Nevertheless, I left feeling happy and satisfied. If you're a fan of tequila, this place is ideal for you! The service was exceptional—our server, Kuali'i, took outstanding care of us. She was very attentive without being overbearing, always friendly, helpful, and wore a bright smile! I couldn't have asked for anything more. It's evident that this place is popular; it was lively and busy all night, even on a Thursday!

Since the closure of The Original Taco House, we've been searching for another outstanding Mexican restaurant. To be honest, we spent a few years out of state, but now that we're back, we've finally discovered it! This place is truly impressive. I’m sorry I didn’t take any pictures; I was too busy enjoying the chips and salsa! While the salsa and some dishes could have benefited from a little more salt, they had salt and pepper available, so it wasn’t a problem. The happy hour was fantastic, with excellent options! With both indoor and outdoor seating, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit! Enjoy!

After being overwhelmed by the garlic in the salsa, I found it difficult to taste anything else, aside from the brewed unsweetened iced tea with lemon. The service was friendly, and the prices were reasonable, which is typical for many dining spots in Portland. I had expected the Relleno to be a traditional stuffed chili that was batter-fried, so I was let down when it wasn't. Also, I prefer Cuban-style black beans, and the ones served were not satisfying and too firm for my liking, making them quite bland. I don't see myself returning anytime soon, but I might reconsider in five or six years if the restaurant is still operating. View menu

Fun, loud music, lots of energy! My brothers and I arrived around 9:30 at night on a weekend night. It took a minute to get our orders ordered but the chips and salsa made up for it. The salsa is absolutely delicious with cilantro has a very addicting taste. I ordered the flutas.... Amazingly big and super delicious. The waitress was attentive and very nice she advised that the kitchen was a little bit behind but like I said everything was worth the wait. I didn't order any drinks but they look very tasty judging the table next to mine. Bill was about average for the environment and type of place it was not overly priced but not cheap either.

Wow! We are visitors on a food tour of Portland and this place is overlooked on food blogs and Portland’s “best” lists. We stopped anyway and are incredibly grateful. Most places we stop, we’re in for a drink or two and usually some light dishes or apps. This place nailed it and did it in style. The room set up is great and the decor is very fun, including the big red curtains and accents to highlight their Matador roots. The drinks we got were phenomenal— at the moment, the seasonal watermelon margarita is worth coming it by itself! Otherwise, food was great, service was quick, and all were friendly. Would absolutely come back should we stop in Portland again!
