"John , the waiter, is in over his head. He has a computer to keep track of his orders, but he lacks the ability to refill coffee or keep jelly packets on the table. Skip what they call sourdough toast. Glorified white bread, no sourdough flavor at all. American fries were crispy and tasty. Will skip this place in future. Service: Dine in"

Cool little diner with a great view of lake Michigan. The only reason I give 4/5 is the food was very bland Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

"We were at Fishtales on August 18. Although understaffed, the bartender did well with our large table of 10. My husband and I ordered the boom boom shrimp, shark bites and a flatbread. We were very pleased with the food that evening. Some others in our party did not have the same experience, however, my husband and I were pleased with ours. We decided to come back on Saturday as the town has limited options. Our experience on Saturday was something non of us have experienced. We, again, were a large group so we know we need patience to get drinks and food etc however, after placing our food order and waiting an hour and a half we tracked down a waiter to ask when our food was coming out as several groups who came in after us had all been served. The waiter informed us that the cook had missed our ticket but they were working on it right away. After another 20 mins and more people getting their food and nothing coming out to us we decided we needed to cancel our food order and settle up on our drinks as we had another commitment to get to and couldn’t wait any longer for the food. As my husband and I were talking to a waitress to figure out our drink bill, a “manager” came out, took our bills and crinkled them up telling us we needed more patience and to just leave and go to another establishment in town. Our entire table had plenty of patience but after nearly 2 hours enough was enough. After reading all the responses from the owner/manager to their reviews one can clearly tell the establishment needs a lot of help with customer service. It is a disappointment to not be able to recommend this place as the food was good but the customer service is completely out of hand. Best of luck to you guys if you continue with that type of customer service."

"We went here on a Friday evening after an unsuccessful attempt to eat at Uncorked (same owner). We were very excited to try Uncorked but when we got there, it was closed (see review for Uncorked separately). When we got to Skaliwags, we waited almost 10 minutes just to get a drink at the bar. There were plenty of seats available at the bar but we kept getting ignored. I understand if you 're busy, but a simple acknowledgement of Oh hello, we 'll be right with you goes a long way. After we finally got our drink, we explained how we made our way to Skaliwags. The bartender preceded to tell us that they can 't seem to find/keep enough chefs and staff for all of the restaurants. She was complaining about all of the turnover and decisions they have to make about which restaurants to staff. When I mentioned that we drove from an hour away to eat at Uncorked and they should update their website that they are closed, she gave me a long speech about how it 's impossible to update their website and she just can 't figure it out. Basically, I think she shared way too much information with us about the state of their business. We did not eat at Skaliwags because I was very disappointed in my whole experience up to that point. I could not justify spending that kind of money on my meal. The whole time, I 'd be thinking about all of the issues she just complained about and could not enjoy my meal. I am very disappointed as I 've heard good things about this chef and his food. Sadly, they seem to have made some poor business decisions. I will not be returning."
