"I showed up a little bit after 2 pm on a Monday, and I wanted to go when there wasn’t as many people. A lot has changed since I last went.. you have to buzz yourself in, the door is no longer open as before and no one wears masks. I thought they would at least ventilate the place as much as possible, especially with all the viruses out now. They do now offer electronic options for payment, which I guess is good, but not sure if they charge a fee. The BIGGEST loss is that there’s no free bread or free water/juice like before. The place is DEFINITELY NOT what it used to be.. I bought two items, as I usually get when I go there, and the portions were always generous before. However, this is no longer the case… the tofu fillets were soggy and underwhelming, and the peas with sweet potatoes were decent, but the portions leave a lot to be desired. You’ll be served the smallest portions possible, and you now have to ask for chili pepper pickles to be served (you’ll get one or two pieces instead of serving yourself as you wish) but maybe it’s because I showed up at an off day/time. You have to buy drinks, and it’s sad that I thought they would at least offer a cup of water. I am not returning again, the value isn’t the same and it was a miss in terms of food quality."

Food is delicious and staff is super friendly. My favorite lunch spot in Downtown Brooklyn, it’s like having a home cooked meal

I decided to visit based on the pictures I saw online and the menu. Upon arrival, I found a buffet with only four items, and the unpleasant smell was overwhelming. I cannot recommend this place.

Taste is great! everyday of the week there is special dish. Spinach lasagna was great! Like how the meal options was are divided by number of items. This creates lot of flexibility based on our appetite.

This restaurant offers a vibe that's more like home-cooked meals. If you're looking for the usual masala-style dishes found in many restaurants, this isn't the place for you. The woman at the counter is very friendly and will happily explain each dish to you. View menu

The food is terrific, but the “spaciousness” they’ve created, in all senses of that word, is of particular value! There’s a sweetness of spirit here. It’s very fast serve if you’re in a hurry, but perhaps coming here you’ll get a sense that it’s better not to (hurry.

The restaurant didn’t meet my expectations based on the ratings. I had hoped the food would compensate for the ambiance, but unfortunately, it didn’t. Everything was excessively butter-laden. The tomato sauce tasted and had the texture of diluted tomato paste, and the beets had the consistency of canned beets rather than being freshly cooked.

This restaurant is a hidden treasure in downtown Brooklyn! I really enjoy their rice prepared with dal, and the cheesecake is out of this world. The food is not only very healthy, but it's also delicious, making it appealing to everyone, not just vegetarians. The staff is extremely friendly, and the artwork enhances the calming atmosphere of the place. View menu

The salad had a somewhat Western/American flavor, likely due to its dressing. The dal (lentil soup) was excellent, while the rice and black beans were decent, and the potato curry was good. There was also an interesting orange vegetable curry made with sweet potatoes and orange and yellow bell peppers. On that day, the special dish was lasagna. While the food was tasty, it was quite oily and greasy, which was surprising for food typically served in a temple. It didn't have the healthy appearance one might expect from satvic cuisine. However, some items were indeed good and healthy, so I plan to return to enjoy specific dishes.

Govinda's Kitchen is a vegan cafeteria located in a basement, offering a steam table lunch that ranges from $8 to $14, depending on how many dishes you choose. On this humid Monday, I enjoyed fried tofu filets (delicious), a kidney bean curry, white rice, a mixed green salad, roasted potatoes, lentil soup, and a mild cabbage and pea mattar (mustard seed dry curry, so good!). I opted for the pick-four option for $12, and I left feeling very satisfied and happy. The service here is exceptionally friendly. You can dine in or take your meal to go, but keep in mind it's a basement setting, so it's not the best spot for taking Instagram-worthy photos. They're open for lunch during the weekdays fro...
