"In A Nutshell: -Liuyishou Hot Pot is a fantastic hot pot restaurant. -The location is on the corner of 3rd Ave San Mateo Drive in downtown San Mateo. -It's a modern-designed building that invites you in. -Inside feels exquisite that is before the wonderful hot pot smells enter your olfactory system. -The menu seems basic, but let me tell you that the choices are very good bountiful. -One word of caution is the spicy broth, it's VERY SPICY, becareful. -The mushroom based broth is the best choice since you can walk over to the sauce bar grab the spice there. -There's also a nice selection of fruits, the watermelon was very good. Overall, this is a top-notch hot pot restaurant!"

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fruits; the strawberries and oranges were incredibly sweet and delicious. The hotpot was also excellent, particularly the spicy butter. The meat was tender and fresh.

Downtown San Mateo. Conveniently located. Easy to order menu. Vegetarian options. Food is fresh. We ordered the mushroom broth which was tasty. Modern interior. Lively background music. Great for family get togethers but not for quiet dining. Thanks to Jayce for the personal attention

this was our second visit to the last two weeks. we came here with our 2-year-old, the personal was friendly and delivered child dishes for the little ones. mix and combine good selection of sauces for them, the appetizers were different every time we visited. the broth was tasty and ingredients were fresh. we are coming back to the final.

There was a brief wait for her wallet, but this isn't your typical all-you-can-eat hot pot; they focus on a la carte options instead. The quality of the food is truly impressive. A word of caution about the hottest chili spices—they're not for the faint of heart! Only try them if you're prepared for the heat, which is quite intense, even for avid hot sauce enthusiasts. This restaurant offers a truly authentic Sichuan-style hot pot experience! The ingredients are fresh, the broths are clean and flavorful, without any artificial taste. We even got to participate in a Lunar New Year game where we spun a wheel and won a delicious shrimp paste that was exceptional. The assortment of vegetables, bamboo mushrooms, and thinly sliced meat were all delightful as well.

Walked in with my friends on a Thursday evening and this place was extremely busy around 7:30 pm. They did not take reservations on phone when we called, but after a 25 minute wait, we were seated on our table. One of the heat source on our table was not working and so getting our soup piping hot for the meat to cook faster was a bit of a challenge. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian broth were served in the same pot (half and half) and we would've liked this to be separate ideally. Service was ok, noise levels at average. View menu

Good hot pot and the broth is very spicy. Food is very fresh. They also have the ingredients bar which has wide selection of sauce and fruits. I recommend most of the items but not the shrimp paste with fish roe the fish roe disappeared in the broth right after you put them in so you actually only have the shrimp paste left. It's much cheaper if you just order the shrimp paste alone and there is no flavor difference at all. Service is mediocre though. They are too busy to listen to any requests and not attentive either.

We go to dinner with friends, and we can get a table without an appointment. And sanitary and safety measures are well done. Every table is separated by transparent plastic plates, and the tables are equipped with disposable alcohol. The bottom of the hot pot is delicious, and there are many ingredients. You can take it from the table where the ingredients are placed. Put it on the ingredient table with peanuts, edamame, fruits, etc. You can eat it at will. But the waiter's service needs to be strengthened, with one star missing.

"Curry Hyuga had long been on my culinary radar, and today, I finally had the chance to experience it. The occasion arose as I needed to pick up my partner at SFO later, and given the mere 10-minute drive from the restaurant to the airport, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to satiate my appetite and make the most of my time, rather than aimlessly circling around the airport. Conveniently, there are numerous public parking lots scattered throughout the town. The restaurant opens its doors at 11:30 am, and I arrived promptly at 11:25 am, only to find a queue already forming outside, as depicted in the photo. The attentive server, Yuki promptly greeted each customer and kept my water glasses filled, setting a positive tone for the dining experience.Opting for their Signature Curry Rice Entree, which features their caramelized onion curry accompanied by shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, and Fukujin pickles, I decided to elevate my meal by adding Chicken Cutlet Katsu Curry with Chicken Karaage as additional toppings. To my amazement, my order was delivered to my table in a mere 3 minutes, which left me thoroughly impressed. Curry Hyuga's standout feature is their incredibly tender meat, perfectly complemented by their mouthwatering curry—a true masterpiece with Kanazawa-style sweetness and richness that sets it apart. To further customize your dish, they offer a selection of five different spices: Ichimi Togarashi, Jalapeno Pepper, Pequin Pepper, Wiri Wiri Pepper, and Orange Habanero. I had the pleasure of sampling all of them, and personally, I found the Wiri Wiri Pepper and Orange Habanero powder to be standout choices. Their spiciness elevated the curry to a whole new level, complemented by the unique fragrance of the peppers."

"I made reservations here for Valentine's day and everything was perfect! Their service was incredibly friendly and attentive, and with each dish it was cool how they talked about the food and explained some of the tastes and flavors just before we began eating. And they get huge props for accommodating my dietary restrictions and modifying almost every item on their menu to something I could eat! (5/5) Osetra caviar I normally hate caviar, but this one was really good! It's cured so it's a bit salty (4/5) Sauteed baby abalone Pretty good, although it doesn't quite compare to ones I've had in the past. That said, one doesn't eat abalone often, so I think the bar for abalone is pretty high (5/5) Warm lobster salad Wow! The lobster was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. Also I thought the charred avocado was interesting; they blowtorch the avocado to give it a slightly tougher texture on the outside, mirroring the lobster (4/5) Braised Lamb Ragu The lamb was exploding with spices and flavor, although it was a tad dry inside. The pappardelle was perfectly al dente (4/5) Black Cherry Sorbet Pretty good, the puffed black rice was a bit hard (one of the pieces was like a rock) but the sorbet was flavorful without being too strong (5/5) Hokkaido A5 Wagyu This was the star of the show. Have you ever had steak that melts in your mouth like butter?? The only problem with this dish is that there were only 2 slices of steak! I wish there were 3! (5/5) Spicy Kiss Passion Fruit Juice They made a modification and gave me a small shot of spicy, fizzy passion fruit juice. The chili had a lot of heat but actually went well with the sourness and fizz of the juice. I would never have though of making passion fruit spicy, but it was pretty tasty (4/5) Cubed fruit stack I don't know what to call this since they also did an entirely separate fruit dessert for me, but it was essentially a Rubik's cube made of watermelon, kiwi, and strawberry, topped with a dark chocolate covered strawberry. (5/5) House made meringue I also don't normally like meringue, but this was like candy and tasted amazing! Thanks Viognier for a wonderful evening and accommodating my dietary needs, everything was solid!"
