This is a clean, quiet, intimate Diner for breakfast or lunch. Simple menu. And it has a ceiling so noise doesn't echo like you are on a factory floor. I recommend the skillet corned beef hash or the cinnamon French toast.

This diner is awesome! Great vibe. New owners are so personable! Everyone seemed to know Al, who laughed and joked with people on their way in and out. Food was great, best French toast I've had in a long time!! Portion sizes were good, atmosphere felt like home! I will be coming back here with my wife at least once a month for breakfast! Mel's diner is my new breakfast spot!

Came in for breakfast after avoiding long waits at other St Charles options. Been a wile since we were here and new owners have upgraded the quality of food. We were all very happy with breakfast selections: veggie omelet, ham and cheese omelet and cinnamon french toast. Service was friendly and attentive. My husband and I recently relocated to the area and were thrilled to find a breakfast spot nearby. Unfortunately, after our first visit, we won't be returning. The restaurant and kitchen were quite dirty, the service was slow despite the lack of customers, and the food was excessively greasy with limited healthy options on the menu. We were very disappointed and are hoping for a better breakfast restaurant to open in Campton Hills soon.

Overall, the menu is straightforward and doesn’t have anything too exciting, but I wouldn’t hesitate to dine here again when I’m in the area. For such a charming little place, I was hoping to find at least one or two standout signature dishes. I feel like this restaurant has great potential, and knowing they could be creative with their offerings makes me more inclined to visit. How about a giant cookie, fresh potato pancakes, or a bacon pancake loaded with veggies? Something fun, please!

The experience was decent until it came time to pay the bill. I visited for the first time this past weekend, and I found the place to be clean and the server friendly, although it wasn't particularly busy for a Sunday at 10:00 AM. I asked if the corned beef hash was made in-house, and the server confirmed it was. I ordered the cinnamon French toast and swapped the side of meat for the corned beef hash. I anticipated an upcharge, but when the bill arrived, I was shocked to see I was charged for an entire order of corned beef hash instead of just a substitution.
