"We have been traveling through the southern United States for some time now, enjoying delicious Southern cuisine at various establishments, from cozy hole-in-the-wall spots to more creative venues. We decided to visit Peninsula Grill to cap off our road trip with an "elevated" experience of Southern food and hospitality. Unfortunately, we encountered a somewhat unwelcoming maitre d', mediocre service, and, most disappointingly, subpar food. I ordered the lamb rack a la Charleston, which tasted as if we were eating the meat of an old animal..."

Pretty dining room. Food expensive but not particularly good. Our waiter was busy with a large table so not very attentive to us. Won't go back.

Staying at the Planter’s Inn and came to this restaurant for our first night. Made it to the Champagne Bar and never left!! Korey is an AMAZING host and offers the best service in town! He’s local and helped with a lot of things to see and places to eat. DO NOT leave without getting the coconut cake, it’s life changing. And take some up to your room for a little breakfast treat View menu

So many things are wrong there! Starting form the worst…the food. The so called “lamb carrè” was not a lamb (rather a mutton and was not a carrè, fois gras was a pudding served on a pineapple slice with peanut butter and the oysters were different taste although it was ensured they were all the same (really?! . The welcome was really cold and the service was very average. Nothing was at the expected level. Very disappointing

My daughter and I stepped out the box this year and decided to go out for our Thanksgiving Dinner. The Peninsula was highly recommended. We spend over $400 in that place, We order their Thanksgiving Dinner. What a disappointment. My daughter ordered the Oysters on the Half Shell, she asked for enhancements, however, this dish did not come with the Champagne Mignonette,Horseradish Cocktail Sauce, as stated in the menu. She had to ask the Manager and describe to him in great details what she wan … – show

"I just have one word that describes my experience here. WOW It was an absolute experience coming here. We were in town for my birthday and decided to eat here for my bday dinner/last night in Charleston. The vibe and atmosphere were classy, fun, and calming. They have a main bar area where you can grab a drink while you wait for a table and can be quite lively later in the evening. The dining rooms are towards the back, a lot quieter and more intimate so has a flavor for whatever you are into. The service was absolutely perfect. Our server (I wish I would have gotten her name she served our party of two at 10pm on Saturday 8/17) was so insanely friendly and personable. She knew her stuff and then some when it came to presenting the menu, but also would come chat with us and give us tips and recs for Charleston as she knew we were from out of town. They also gave us a free cheesecake and glasses of champagne on the house for our celebration. Just overall made us feel incredibly special and welcomed (we don't normally eat at places like this lol). The food, omg.....I am not overstating or being hyperbolic.......this was hands down without a doubt the greatest steak I have ever had in my life. Nothing even comes close. I had the Dry Aged Ribeye, and it has completely ruined steak for me because nothing will ever be that good. My girlfriend got the Filet, and it was in the same ballpark. Just legendary. We also got a side of the lobster Mac Cheese and it was fluffy with a perfect crust on top. Amazing flavor and texture. If you ever have the opportunity to dine, do yourself a favor and go. This was one of the best dinner experiences I have ever had. Thank you for making it a wonderful experience to the wait staff, the chef, servers, everyone there played a part and gave me a memory I will hold onto forever. Thank you!!"

"My fiancé and I were engaged on 12/22/17 and he planned our solemn dinner with Circa 1886, and it was nothing less amazing. Charles was our waiter and delivered the best service we had ever experienced. The next day we even called the restaurant to rave over our experience. The service was like a clockwork, but we were not rushed. Our glasses were never half empty and our cutlery was replaced by any course. We received free champagne regularly $34/glass) and customized congratulation menus to start the meal. All the questions we had on the menu were answered and Charles gave great suggestions for meals. I ordered the Intermezzo cocktail and my fiancée ordered the famous Scotch cocktail, both were great. We ordered the scallops and the beets and chèvre as starters. The scallops were cooked for perfection. Very buttery and melt in your mouth - I wish more than 2 came on the plate! The beet and the Chèvre were exquisite with cool goat cheese sauce. We ate every bite. 2 bite-sized free snacks were provided by the cook - one was a spoon with a cheese cube, almond and cherry, the other was a divided Lima bean soup. YUM. As for dinner, my fiancée did the 5 courses tasting menu beef pate, heirloom tomato salad, pheasant, lamb, pumpkin soap) and he enjoyed everything. The portions were generous and Charles gave me additional plates so that I could choose the different dishes. I ordered the triple potato gratin I am vegetarian and it was from this world. Very sweet and delicious. Charles then surprised me with a free dessert course of the Smores). Both plates were decorated with congratulations in chocolate - it was a very special note. When we included the $200 check with a generous tip) we felt like the experience and the food was worth 100% the money. We will definitely be back and would recommend everyone and everyone."
