"I had the Kaiseki Lunch Course ($140), which I believe is only available on Sundays, and reservations are a must since it can be hard to get a table. This restaurant is tucked away in an unassuming location, but it truly is a hidden gem! Every course was fantastic, and I enjoyed them all, especially the Nodoguro, which was delicious. The hostess was incredibly warm and friendly as well. One standout dessert was their red bean Basque cheesecake—so unique, I’ve never had anything like it before. The Kaiseki here is comparable to some of the more upscale and expensive places in San Francisco, but I really appreciate the cozy and authentic atmosphere of this place! One suggestion I have is to provide a menu or course descriptions for the Kaiseki, as I love to remember what I’ve eaten. While the hostess offered detailed explanations, I personally prefer reading. I will definitely be returning!"

The Japanese cuisine here is outstanding, featuring incredibly fresh seafood and exceptional flavors. It's the best Kaiseki I've experienced in the Bay Area to date!

Charming husband-and-wife-run Japanese home-style restaurant. We made a reservation through TOCK and arrived for a leisurely yet warm dinner with friends. I recommend this place if you’re not in a hurry and can appreciate the slow, enjoyable pace of the meal.

The ultimate hidden gem in the Bay Area is an unpretentious mom-and-pop ramen shop located in a strip plaza that has been transformed into an intimate kaiseki fine-dining experience. This restaurant showcases the finest seasonal ingredients from Japan. I highly recommend it!

The food was outstanding, and the service was exceptional. It's an excellent spot for a romantic date night or a birthday celebration. Every dollar spent here is well worth it. The husband-and-wife duo running the place are wonderful. Make sure to book your reservations early, as seating is limited. View menu

The dishes are beautifully presented and each has a story to tell, showcasing Michelin star-level execution. Every bite is packed with flavors that complement each other harmoniously. The sake menu is straightforward and to the point. This kaiseki experience transformed the pandemic into a mere fleeting nightmare.

I had a fantastic full-course kaiseki dinner, with each dish surpassing the previous one. Standout items included the maitake mushroom tempura, kamatoro in the chirashi bowl, and the A5 wagyu course. While it's on the expensive side, it's definitely a worthwhile indulgence for a special occasion. The dinner experience lasted around three hours.

I believe this restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. We were on the hunt for high-quality Kaiseki in the Bay Area and stumbled upon this place on Instagram. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, and the owners were incredibly generous, treating every table to extra truffles. I highly recommend this spot to anyone seeking a peaceful Kaiseki experience. View menu

Kaiseki Saryo Hachi offers a refined and subtle array of complex (and rare) dishes, all served in a former casual ramen shop nestled in a Burlingame strip mall. The husband-and-wife team running the restaurant manages everything seamlessly over the span of three hours. However, the prices are steep, likely due to supply chain challenges and the impressive sourcing of the unique ingredients that are truly mesmerizing. Standout dishes included hamo (pike conger), a sweet and rich fish that demands meticulous preparation, and the macaron dessert, which was likely the best I’ve ever had.

I had a stunning 10-course dining experience that truly satisfied my appetite, left a lasting impression, and warmed my heart. The menu changes monthly to highlight seasonal ingredients, which is a fantastic touch. The chawanmushi with unagi was simply exquisite, but the highlight for me was the sashimi. I tend to lean towards unique and rare fish, particularly white fish, so I didn't anticipate much when I saw salmon and tuna on the menu. I was completely mistaken; they completely transformed my perception of what salmon and tuna could taste like. The last time I felt this way was many years ago in Japan. To top it off, the tuna was sourced locally from Half Moon Bay! The Tai (sea bream) wa...

"Curry Hyuga had long been on my culinary radar, and today, I finally had the chance to experience it. The occasion arose as I needed to pick up my partner at SFO later, and given the mere 10-minute drive from the restaurant to the airport, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to satiate my appetite and make the most of my time, rather than aimlessly circling around the airport. Conveniently, there are numerous public parking lots scattered throughout the town. The restaurant opens its doors at 11:30 am, and I arrived promptly at 11:25 am, only to find a queue already forming outside, as depicted in the photo. The attentive server, Yuki promptly greeted each customer and kept my water glasses filled, setting a positive tone for the dining experience.Opting for their Signature Curry Rice Entree, which features their caramelized onion curry accompanied by shredded cabbage, creamy potato salad, and Fukujin pickles, I decided to elevate my meal by adding Chicken Cutlet Katsu Curry with Chicken Karaage as additional toppings. To my amazement, my order was delivered to my table in a mere 3 minutes, which left me thoroughly impressed. Curry Hyuga's standout feature is their incredibly tender meat, perfectly complemented by their mouthwatering curry—a true masterpiece with Kanazawa-style sweetness and richness that sets it apart. To further customize your dish, they offer a selection of five different spices: Ichimi Togarashi, Jalapeno Pepper, Pequin Pepper, Wiri Wiri Pepper, and Orange Habanero. I had the pleasure of sampling all of them, and personally, I found the Wiri Wiri Pepper and Orange Habanero powder to be standout choices. Their spiciness elevated the curry to a whole new level, complemented by the unique fragrance of the peppers."
