"Everything I've ordered at Thao Ngoc has been excellent! This Vietnamese restaurant is relatively new, at least since my return to Dorchester over the past decade. The staff are always welcoming, offering iced tea as soon as you sit down. I tried the salt toasted pork chop plate, which was enormous. The pork chops were incredibly moist and crispy with every bite, and the portion size was impressive. The grilled chicken with rice took me back to my childhood; it was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. If you're a seafood lover, their salt toasted squid and soft shell crabs are fantastic options, although they can be a bit spicy, so be sure to request a milder version if needed. Adding pork chops to the seafood dish costs an additional $6, but it’s a generous portion. I also enjoyed their spring rolls and garlic snow pea leaves, which rival the quality and flavor of any Chinese restaurant. Their fried tofu and mixed vegetables are great choices for vegetarians as well. While some dishes can get a bit pricey with customization, the large portion sizes certainly make it worthwhile."

Real score 4.4 Service lacked and didn't have green onion oil. But flavors were amazing!

I come here mainly for the salted spicy squid and calamari. Always excellent! The caramelized catfish is also very good. View menu

Most low star reviews on this restaurant are for bad reasons and lies, what? Of course there are some real understanding reasons of low star reviews though.

This restaurant serves fantastic food, but the service could use some improvement. We ordered three dishes: beef pho, special house fried rice, and salty fried tofu. All of them were delicious! We loved everything and will definitely come back for more! View menu

Under new management. This is not my prefer place to go the next time. The prices are the same as other restaurants or more. Rice dish was horrible, the rice has odor and soggy mix with dried rice. The rice seem to be old, has been cooked for quite sometimes, starting to be rotten. The cup of soup was very salty. They did not offer to exchange a different dish or discount. Place is small and I was the only customer.

"No soup/sandwich shop compares in terms of price per quality, portion size, and different options in the area. I only started ordering from here about 2 weeks ago and I’ve now had 7 different kinds of soups and 4 different kinds of sandwiches after the first order I started ordering two soups and a sandwich aka a soup to save for later because they’re just that good, every one of them. Price is so very reasonable and depending on which combo you get you can make out with a full sized sandwich and large sized homemade soup for $14.While it’s hard to recommend one thing over another in this circumstance since it’s all been great in their own ways, the Chicken Chowder is something I plan on getting a quart of next time it’s available. The Chicken Barley and Chicken Lemon Rice are ones I plan on getting quarts of in the future as well, and that’s not to discount the Chicken Noodle, Beef and Veg Noodle Stew, French Onion, and the current seasonal Chilled Gazpacha (which I probably wouldn’t have even tried it wasn’t from these guys . It’s all top quality. The Chicken Tarragon sandwich is my favorite in terms of sandwiches although it can’t combo with a soup as of now (please let us! . The best cheap soup combo sandwich is a tossup between the Cilantro Tuna and Ciabatta Sandwich, which are both incredible in their own ways. The only few drawbacks to this place are they don’t have every soup they make every day, are only open until 4PM, and aren’t open on the weekends. That said it’s worth it to plan accordingly for this. I never review anything but this place is worth it it’s the best if you’re a soup and sandwich person like I am."
