"I think we just caught this restaurant on a bad night. It wasn’t busy but the service was not attentive. Some pieces of bread seemed stale and the portion size was not great. I had the Cod over mashed potatoes, it tasted good but the piece of cod could have been larger. My wife had the linguine with clams which she liked but again, portion size/value were lacking and 6 clams (cockles actually) didn’t open. There are many great restaurants in Gloucester and this may be one of them, but it just wasn’t on our first visit here."

"When my dish arrived, the waitress skillfully broke the lobster apart for me. I was pleasantly surprised and thankful for her help. She showed me how to handle it and even offered some helpful tips—such a thoughtful gesture. The lobster was fresh and delicious, just what you would expect from steamed lobster in Massachusetts. On the side, I enjoyed some tasty squash and steamed asparagus. Overall, it was a straightforward and delightful seafood meal, and I savored every bite. Would I rate it five stars? Not exactly, but it was definitely a solid experience. There are several other seafood restaurants in the vicinity, so I might explore other options next time. However, if you haven't been here yet, I highly recommend giving it a visit. It's a fantastic spot with a friendly atmosphere and simple, great seafood."

"The views are simply stunning, and the food is fantastic! We traveled about an hour to get to this restaurant, and it was worth it. We ordered two cocktails, calamari, a Caesar salad, a lobster roll, and mahi mahi. The calamari could have used a bit more seasoning, but the lobster roll definitely lives up to its name as a top choice. The mahi mahi was seasoned perfectly. The fries, cut like thick chips, were absolutely delicious! We can't wait to return!"

"Definitely consider the Causeway for your next catered affair at home or at a location of your choice! All I can say is wow...I attended a baby shower today at the Elks in Gloucester. The food was absolutely delicious, passionately prepared, presented, and served by owner Peter Zappa and his wonderful team. Everyone totally enjoyed the food, with so many choices (baked haddock, steak tips, lemon chicken, mac 'n cheese, veggies, potatoes, clam chowder and more). There were endless rave reviews, with the baked haddock being my favorite! We always enjoy the food from the Causeway, we do takeout. Everyone is always hustling to service and ensure their customers are happy! Their fish chowder is the BEST, my #1!"

"Never disappointed with this local favorite. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is attentive, accommodating, and easy going. The owner and head chef, Eric, sources local fish and small farm meat as much as possible. The wine and beer list is diverse w/a wide price range, and a nice selection of the wines by the glass. Beer on tap changes seasonally. The tried-and-true menu is accompanied by daily specials. If you are new or visiting the area, this is a MUST visit. My most favorite dish is the Adriatic Stew, a delicate broth, paired perfectly with a generous mix of seafood. It serves as a main course if you share an app (the crab cakes are scrumptious . My guy loves the meatloaf stack. Note: During Covid, when restaurants were closed or curbside-only, chef Eric maintained his supplier relationships, offering weekly pickups of seafood, chicken, meets, and staples like butter, eggs, wine and beer (def Covid staples! . It was a memorable highlight from a tough time. We got to make great meals at home, and were so grateful for this service."
