"Was incredibly excited to dine here based off the recommendations from Eater, Conde’ Nast, etc. We went for Brunch, but “Brunch” is a term used loosely on the menu. Very few Brunch items. We went over 10 minutes before we were acknowledged, and I feel that all of the wind went out of our Server when we chose not to order any alcoholic beverages. Service from then on was scattered at best. Never offered a refill on our coffee. Then imagine how I felt when I witnessed the same Server give exceptional service to the table next to us, all from what I feel was that table ordering multiple cocktails and an appetizer to start. We were told about “specials on the board” and were told to “just read the board”. If I lacked character, or honestly just had a $10 to throw down for the subpar coffee, I would have gotten up and walked out. Not the best experience for the glowing reviews I have read. excellent service, but regularly eat nothing special, it is necessary more dedication and passion of taste, as if eating precook for a factory.

It was our first visit to The Obstinate Daughter but it certainly won't be our last. From the cheese board with the homemade jam to the pizzas and the Grouper catch of the day, everything was amazing! Loved the addition of sea beans to the beet salad, too.Really delicious!

Hands down one of the best meals of my life! The food was unreal the gnocchi were out of this world, everything else was delicious as well the chefs are killing it in the kitchen. The service is superb, the 2 ladies taking care of us went above and beyond, and made our night feel extra special. The ambiance and decor are so pleasant, you just don't want to leave. All in all, this is the golden standard that every restaurant should aspire to achieve. Thank you! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I loved the food here so much! I think it will be one of my new spots! My only complaint is that a Diet Coke was $5 that’s just highway robbery! Everything else was priced right and tasted amazing. The presentation was awesome and it was quick! Update 12/11/23 I have been back to the Obstinate Daughter many time since my first review and I have been impressed. The drinks are always good and the service is top notch. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Roasted Beets View menu

The food and service at this restaurant are excellent! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. It is highly recommended to make reservations in advance as the restaurant is very popular and there can be long waits. All the pasta is made fresh in house daily and the gnocchi are incredibly delicious. The portion sizes are generous and offer good value. Below the restaurant, there is a sweets cafe offering house made gelato, espresso, and merchandise. The restaurant is accessible via an elevator or outdoor seating at sidewalk level. Parking is limited, but a free lot behind the post office and paid parking about a block away are available options.

We went for brunch at 11:30. Surprisingly not as busy as expected given the glowing reviews. The waiter finally made it to our table after being seated for more than five minutes. He welcomed us but then said the specials were on the chalk board and we didn't look like we had any trouble reading so he proceeded to ask for our drink order. We both had coffee but were never offered a refill. The brunch menu was lack luster at best with at least 4 menu items that included a raw or undercooked farm egg. Fine it you like farm eggs. I suppose if you want pizza or oysters for brunch, this place would be acceptable. But for breakfast or traditional brunch, go elsewhere. Parking: Limited on site park...

"However, my biggest complaint was about the pitcher and saucer setup in the back dining room by the water. I'm not sure if there are other similar setups in the restaurant, but this was my experience. It was completely unhygienic! They kept the pitchers right behind the guests, where hair and other debris could easily fall into them or come into contact. I only noticed the setup when one of the servers grabbed a pitcher, and I felt a wet smack on my back, realizing my hair had been in it and had fallen onto the saucers below. We informed the staff about what happened, and they changed the water and attempted to put it back. I refused, explaining how unhygienic it was and that it could happen again. Surely, I couldn't be the first person this has happened to. Eventually, another server discreetly tried to take the pitcher back, and once again, it caught my hair. To prevent them from placing it back, I put a salt shaker on top of the plates. (I’ve attached a picture to show how close it was.) On the other side of the aisle, we noticed a similar situation where a man kept taking off his hat and brushing his head against the saucers and pitcher behind him. Because of this experience, I won't be returning, and I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Even though the food quality was decent, there are many better places to spend your money in Charleston. If this is how they operate in the dining room, I can only imagine what health codes they might be violating in the kitchen."
