"The Huckleberry has been our favorite spot for fantastic breakfasts and outstanding customer service. Unfortunately, I need to share a recent experience that left us feeling quite disappointed. It’s difficult to determine whether it was ageism or simply an off day for the staff, but my daughter and niece were treated poorly during their last visit.
Right from the start, they felt dismissed and unwelcome. Their server, who was dressed in overly tight leggings and a crop top, seemed more appropriate for a gym than a restaurant. Upon their arrival, they were ignored, while the staff engaged in various activities at the host stand—such as pouring coffee and cashing out tickets—without acknowledging the guests who were waiting. I understand that not everyone is a host, but as servers, it would have been nice for them to at least greet the customers instead of completely ignoring them.
To make matters worse, after receiving their breakfast entrées, the server showed no interest in checking on their meals or asking how everything was. Having worked in the food industry for years, I know how a simple two-minute check-in can make a difference. If one had been conducted, it would have quickly revealed that one of the dishes was served cold and not up to standard. Instead, they had to mention it at the host stand during payment, where they were also treated dismissively.
Notably absent that day was the usually cheerful and attentive manager—who is typically on top of things—which was quite noticeable. I can’t help but wonder if my daughter and niece's concerns were dismissed because of their age, which adds to my frustration.
I truly hope this was just a one-time occurrence and that The Huckleberry can restore its reputation for providing excellent breakfasts and customer service. For now, I feel compelled to share this negative experience in hopes that it serves as a wake-up call for management and staff."
