A week or so ago, we ordered a “Special Pie” — half margherita and half vodka Sicilian for delivery. Before we ended the call, the owner kindly requested that we call back later to share our thoughts on the order. The pizza was fantastic, with quality ingredients on both halves. However, we encountered a minor issue: much of the vodka sauce and cheese from that half had run off, leaving some stuck to the top of the box, which was a bit disappointing.
Tonight, I picked up a meatball parmigiana hero (which was also tasty) and was eager to discuss our previous experience with the owner in person. During our conversation, he shared that his master's degree in social work has made him "big on feedback". When I mentioned our experience with the pizza, he said that I should have called back that same night, and he would have rectified the situation. He noted that the delivery driver might not have stabilized the pizza box properly and speculated that it may not have been in a taller Sicilian pizza box, which could explain why the cheese ended up stuck to the lid. There was a plastic table in the box, but it didn’t seem to help much. I also suggested that fresh vodka sauce and cheese Sicilian pies might not be the best for delivery.
As a token of appreciation for my feedback, the owner didn’t charge me for my meatball parmigiana hero and even added a regular slice for me to sample. It was a lovely gesture that reflected the kind of customer satisfaction we once often found.
