"Ultimately, it comes down to personal interpretation of what New York-style pizza should be. For me, it’s all about the crust having a distinct flavor and being thin toward the center. A good New York pizza must also have plenty of cheese and high-quality pepperoni. The sauce is what really sets it apart from other pizzas; it should have a certain sweetness without overpowering garlic flavor. If I wanted a garlic sauce, I would have ordered one. I’m not particularly fond of garlic, even though I know it has some health benefits; I just don’t think it belongs on a New York-style pizza.
Unfortunately, the sauce they used was too garlicky for my taste. I genuinely wanted to give them a five-star review because the service was excellent, the prices were reasonable, and I appreciate supporting independent owners. The pizza itself wasn’t bad, but it was too far removed from what I believe New York-style should be.
Clearly, many people love it; the pizzeria has received plenty of five-star ratings, and I respect those who enjoy their garlic-filled sauce. However, it just isn’t for me. Did I perhaps receive a different type of sauce by mistake? Are there options, such as Grandma's slices, that might have a different sauce? This would be the only reason I’d consider trying this pizzeria again. If the owner could clarify this for me, I’d appreciate it. While I commend his efforts, if this is the only sauce available, I’ll have to pass on a return visit."
