"Quite a disappointing experience. I had read that many people enjoyed their calzones, and as a calzone lover, I went to go try them out. Pretty bug let down in most ways. I tried the medium sized cheese calzone. The price of the calzone was okay $13-$14 around) for a medium. However, it was smaller than I had expected. The shape was more similar to that of a Stromboli, too. Still, I thought maybe the taste would make up for the relatively small portion size. Nope, it didn't. They did not include much cheese and the cheese they did include did not taste very good. This calzone was far too bready and did not have much flavor. No crunchiness for the exterior, no buttery brushing or sprinkling of Parmesan like some places do. Even the side tomato sauce was not good. Now, I will saw, they did give me 2 side sauce containers, which is nice. And, they may have been tomato chunks in there as well. But, there were also large pieces of onion. And, I'm not a fan of onion, so that ruined the flavor of the sauce for me. I hate to say this, but the area itself and the vibe in the restaurant were not good. Employees were smoking outside, and the area seemed generally run down. It's not spacious or comfortable in there, so highly recommend not eating inside. All in all, I do not think I will be returning to Alioto's any time soon. The quality of the calzone was poor, the portion was small, and the sauce was dominated with onion flavor. The place is pretty run down and some employees smoked outside. Would not recommend."
