"Since there are no locally-owned hamburger places in this area these days, HWY 55 in Mebane has been the one place to go for a cheeseburger cooked in a traditional way unique for this area. I have not been to this HWY 55 in months mostly because the last time, I did not feel the food was as good as it had been. Yesterday at 4:30 PM I was hoping things had changed for the better. I was very disappointed. There were only two other customers in the place. There were two workers. The guy behind the grill was ok. The young lady that helped me place my takeout order was nice.I ordered small cheeseburger with mustard, chili and slaw...American cheese. The burger was sloppy, the meat patty was burnt, dry, and tough. The chili was burnt and mostly brown liquid. If there was any slaw on the burger, it must have been that grayish watery substance that was diluting the large glob of mustard, causing all the condiments to drip off the bun after totally turning the bottom of the bun into a soggy mess.I am not very picky about cheeseburgers especially when an honest attempt has been made to make a good one. I don't mind a bit of sloppiness. If the meat is a bit dry, that's ok. For me, it's more about the consistency and flavor of the chili.I do not feel an honest attempt was made to serve me a topline burger. I'm fairly sure the chili had been sitting on a hot burner all day.As for the physical feel of the restaurant, it seemed neglected, somewhat rundown. I was willing to over-look this if the food had been much better.I really hope things will improve."

"After I placed my order, the young lady went to the back to relay it to two young men who were preparing food and chatting. I ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes. When the young lady finally brought out my order, she apologized for the wait, and I thanked her before leaving. When I got to work, I was disappointed and a bit angry after discovering what the attached photos show. I thought I had communicated my order clearly, but it seemed like the young lady may not have heard me. First, there was cheese on the burger, which I had specifically requested to be removed. Second, I received only one patty instead of the double I ordered. The single patty was awkwardly hanging off the bottom bun, and the lettuce looked like it had been carelessly thrown on top. On the positive side, the fries were good as always—though a little more salt would have made them perfect—but the overall presentation of the meal left much to be desired. I hesitated to eat the burger mainly because of the cheese, which had turned into a yellowish mass, causing the tomatoes and stray bits of lettuce to stick together in a solid lump. Still, I was hungry, so I took a few bites. They were okay but nothing to rave about. The meat lacked the freshness and flavor I remembered from previous visits. After a few more bites, I gave up and tossed the rest. I’ve tried to be honest in this review. I’m rating this visit with two stars because a one-star rating feels too harsh considering that mistakes can happen. However, I believe that customers work hard for their money and deserve at least a decent meal when dining out. I hope this feedback is taken constructively for improvement, possibly through retraining staff. Presentation, consistency, accuracy, and care are essential in food preparation. While this experience isn’t enough to completely deter me, it has made me hesitant for now. I genuinely hope that my next order from your establishment will be as enjoyable as my first visit."
