"What keeps me coming back to a business is good customer service, but unfortunately, I don’t feel that at Lenwich. Don’t get me wrong—the sandwiches are excellent. However, the customer service there seems to be racially selective. I’ve been to Lenwich about five times, and during my first visits, no one acknowledged me until I approached the counter and said, “How you doing?” That’s when I finally received some hospitality.
After placing my order, I would wait nearby, and a few minutes later, a Caucasian customer would walk in. At that moment, a Hispanic employee at the front counter would suddenly jump up, greeting them loudly and enthusiastically with a “Good morning, how can I help you?” I noticed this pattern after my first two visits and hoped I was mistaken, but it kept happening every time I went there. Caucasian customers are greeted right away upon entering, while Black customers don’t receive that warm welcome. The boisterous greetings always come from the same Hispanic employee at the front counter, directed at whoever he chooses.
I believe everyone deserves to be greeted equally with friendly customer service and genuine hospitality. Excellent service for all customers helps a business thrive, but when employees selectively choose whom to acknowledge based on race, it hurts the business. After all, money has only one color."
