"Tommy 's is a cultural institution in Cleveland Hts., it 's been around for a while. Generations of families come back again and again, with new parents relishing in the memories of coming in with their parents decades before. They were ahead of the curb on the vegetarian and vegan scene, offering tofu dogs and boca burgers long before vegan options became the norm. These are reasons to appreciate Tommy 's and be sure to check it out if you 're in the area. Now, for the food. For what you get, essentially oldschool diner food, Tommy 's is pricey. The prices are comparable to those served at shops with freshly baked bread and house made seitan or veggie burgers. In my opinion, the prices went up with the times but the quality of offerings have pretty much remained the same. With the exception of the Tofutti and Rice Dream shakes, the oldschool vegan meals simply aren 't very good when compared to the handmade stuff restaurants are pumping out today. A tofu pup and boca burger are memorable in so far as they signify how bad things used to be for vegans. Many diners require more effort in their vegan options these days and, to be honest, that requirement was long overdue. To summarize, Tommy 's is worth a visit for it 's history alone, it 's essentially a symbol of Cleveland Hts. with it 's oldschool liberal and family oriented vibes. Of course, also mirroring the city, it 's menu has struggled to keep up with the times."

Red Derby

Red Derby

3718 14th St NW, Washington, United States Of America, 20010

Food • Full • Casual • Bottomless Coffee

"**Food:** The sweet potato fries dusted with cinnamon are, as many have said, absolutely divine. While the burger isn’t particularly thrilling, I’ve discovered that the grilled cheese is a winner. It features a delightful mix of American and Boursin cheese on whole grain bread. It’s priced at seven dollars, with an extra dollar for those amazing sweet potato fries. Yum! **Drinks:** There are around 25 options for canned beer, ranging from Baltimore’s Natty Boh for just $2 to Baltika at $6. Yes, canned beer can be quite enjoyable! If you prefer, you can also order a mixed drink or some wine. There are fun drink specials from Sunday to Wednesday. **Entertainment:** In the back, you can play pool for just a dollar per game, which is a great way to pass the time (though it can be a bit drafty in the winter). There’s also a retro movie projected silently on the wall, and you can hand the bartender your iPod with a 15-minute playlist to have your music played throughout the bar. Or, even better, chat with the people next to you! **Clientele:** During my recent visit to the Red Derby this past Sunday evening, the crowd was quite diverse. In attendance were Sascha, one of the owners, along with a middle-aged Black man, a younger Black man, a middle-aged Middle-Eastern man, an Asian man, and a couple of white women who appeared to be a couple, as well as a few white men who seemed to live nearby. Some patrons were mingling while others kept to themselves. A week ago, I witnessed a white neighbor teaching a Black neighbor how to play backgammon. On another visit, the bar was bustling with a lively group of friends preparing to head down to the Black Cat, and another time I dined next to two couples in their 50s. The Red Derby truly welcomes everyone. **Owners:** Dave and Sascha, a fun young married couple, initially opened a bar in Adams Morgan but ran into several issues there. Thankfully, they found a much better fit on 14th Street. One of them is usually present in the bar, and they both work hard to ensure you feel right at home. They’ve also built relationships with other local business owners, often seen greeting staff from nearby establishments and chatting about the local pool hall and more. For those unfamiliar with the neighborhood, it’s diverse but not predominantly Hispanic. There are several large apartment complexes with many Hispanic residents, as well as townhouses largely occupied by African Americans, with some white and Hispanic neighbors as well. Most townhomes are owner-occupied. Interestingly, it seems the Hispanic community tends to utilize buses more than both the white and Black populations. Many of my Black neighbors drive, while most of the white neighbors prefer walking to the Metro, often avoiding the bus for reasons unknown. Consequently, the Hispanic presence is quite visible along 14th Street, with many local businesses catering to that community, including several Salvadoran restaurants and takeout spots. There's also a delightful corner grocery store, one of the few in the city that doesn’t sell lottery tickets or alcohol. Everyone is welcome to frequent these local spots, regardless of their background. I genuinely hoped that my first amazing experience at the Red Derby wouldn’t be tainted by later visits. I was also crossing my fingers that the friendly atmosphere created by the owners and staff would remain consistent. I worried that the city-dwellers who crowd Wonderland on weekends wouldn’t start coming here looking to trivialize it as just another “dive bar.” Thankfully, my hopes have been fulfilled. The discreet “no sign” approach of the Red Derby is charming, and I appreciate the little things. Walking up 14th Street from the Columbia Heights metro station is safe and well-lit, so no need to worry. Buses 52, 53, and 54 run along 14th Street, stopping at Spring for a short walk. You could also take the 16th Street bus, getting off at Spring and walking two blocks to 14th. Better yet, why not bike? There are bike racks available for at least eight bicycles outside. Red Derby, may you continue to thrive and maintain your unique character! You have my heart."

"I had recently lunch in taza a Lebanese grill on chagrin boulevard in woodmere, ohio. taza is located in the eton mall on the north side of the chagrin boulevard. there are many free parking spaces on the eton mall they see the video that I have under the PHOTO tab. there are two Taza locations in the cleveland Metro Station. the decor is warm and welcoming. dark woodwork and dark, warm colours. the street side and a corner in which outside seats are located during the warmer weather, have large windows that shine in much daylight. an inner wall has large mirror sections over the seat bench, which improve the effect of daylight. a stylish setting to dinate with fabric serviettes and beautiful flatware. when she enters taza, she greets a nicer herr and shows her on her table. shortly after her seat she greets her server and takes her drink order. krystal is my server. she is also the bar. she had diners sitting at the bar and at two tables opposite the bar. krystal is very good at her job. she has a very pleasant personality and a great smile. during my visit, she had several regular customers who often had lunch here. taza is next to the eton mall office tower. workers from the tower can dinate in taza without going out and the ne ohio weather to brave. the entire staff is very friendly, helpful and attentive. while eating, several customers came for take-away orders. as a crystal with my unsweetened black icy returned. taza has several flavors of fresh brewed icy to choose from. at the same time, krystal brought a basket of two kinds of warm pita brote with a za’atar and oil diving sauce. very delicious! I ordered the little grilled veggies entree. the entree is made of marinated grilled vegetables, served with Lebanese rice, vegetables and both a garlic sauce and a tahini sauce. the presentation of food is attractive and shows contemplativeness and sense. it was so tempting, I dug into the meal before I realized that I had not made a picture of it. not only the meal that appeals to the eye, aroma, texture and deep of taste are incredible. the deep of the taste has a light touch of flavor and taste and is not overwhelming. a very pleasant dish for all senses. all in the restaurant seemed really enjoying each of their meals. the menu has many vegan and vegetarian choices as well as meat and fish dishes. the restaurant is very clean and the staff quickly clear and sanitary every table after the departure of the customers. ende april 2022 does not wear any of the workers face masks. taza has no dedicated washrooms. eton mall has public washrooms right next to the restaurant. taza has a good sign that leads her to the public washrooms. I recently came to taza a Lebanese grill for another lunch. the service and eating are very good. I started with the garlic spinach appetizer. the spinach is in olive oil and fresh garlic with roasted bevelled and pine nuts. a very tasty dish presented well. my entree is the small part of the Shawarma plate, which is fed with fresh tomato slices, swash, humak, petersilie, tahini sauce and french french grilled bark strips. it is tasty, though, I prefer the little grilled veggies I really enjoyed on my previous visit. the deep of the taste, textures and the visual appeal of the small grilled veggies was better. on a beautiful spring day in the mai the people have fed in the sitting area in the free. When I arrived, the sitting area was overcrowded. I will be back to taza a Lebanese grill for good eating and service."
