"Our checkin experience was horrible, mostly due to the attitude of desk person Lavon. It was pouring rain and he sent us to an elevator that wasn’t working most of the week that was at the far end of the building. So we and other groups checking in took our carts filled with luggage and groceries outside through ponding rain to an elevator that didn’t work. We then had to return through the same conditions to the only operating elevator which was right outside then office and wait after we and our belongings were soaking wet. I was understandably mad and I told Lavon about it. He told us he didn’t know the elevator was not working. I apologized to him the next day and in the course of our discussion he accused me of getting mad at him because I was a racist and told me he wasn’t gonna kiss anybody’s ass. My wife and i were completely shocked. Luckily Ray, the security manager was there to try to defuse the situation and he was excellent. We talked to the Manager, Crystal that night and she was great also, seemed surprised and apologized, something that Lavon never did and said he should have known the elevator was not working and would sit down with him and discuss his conduct. We did not even acknowledge him for the rest of our stay but he was still there. So, needless to say, not a great first impression but it got markedly better from there. The room was a large studio which was fine for my wife and I, an inside corner room so it wasn’t the best balcony or view but worked out fine. The Tiki Bar was our home base and Tommy and Kayla were great. Happy Hour every day from 4-7PM. Drinks, food and prices were excellent as was the pool and the beach which was private and nice but had a steep drop off to the water because of beach erosion. You could rent cabanas and wave runners right from the private beach and the Hillsboro Lighthouse, just north, made the beach views that much better! As a RCI exchange customer you get very little consideration on room selection or upgrades but the resort seemed to be almost full. The owners who come every year spoke highly of the resort and they were in the process of upgrading the rooms and bathrooms, but we were fine with what we were given although wouldn’t have turned down a room upgrade. One thing to mention is if you’re not a smoker, there are smokers everywhere including sitting at the tiki bar and on our balcony so its hard to get away from someone’s smoke coming your way. The tiki bar and restaurant are public access so lots of locals frequent the bar and the majority are smokers but honestly, we just moved if the wind shifted. Overall a very relaxing week, lots of things to do close but make sure you walk to the Fisher Family Pier and stop in at The Lucky Fish beachfront bar and restaurant by the pier and Briny Irish Pub, close to the pier also and see Patrick. Great music, drinks and food! Also, The Cove, just north in Deerfield Beach was a great place for a drink and food and right on the Inter Coastal Waterway."
