"This highly recommended Indian restaurant in New York City was not a great experience for me. Based on so many recos, I went there to check it off my list. I was solo and sat at the bar. Normally when you sit at the bar, especially if you’re by yourself, the bartenders are friendly and chat with you, but not here. The guy was quite standoffish and I also felt like I got awkward stares from some of the staff throughout my time there! My drink was decent, nothing great, the avocado bhel was very good, actually (it’s what got them 2 stars from me) and then after feeling a little judged for ordering only 2 items (the bartender asked me if I was having only 1 food item from the menu with a certain tone, making me feel that way) , I also ordered malai chicken tikka based on the bartender’s reco. It was not good at all! It was bland, with chicken pieces sitting in the pool of hot milk. I asked for some condiment to go with it when he started explaining me what malai tikka is. When I told him I knew what it was, he asked me to pick a chutney from the menu for additional charge. I did, but even that didn’t help improve the taste. All in all, I felt like it was a waste. Never going back."
