"A pleasant surprise. On our way home from Boston, we started looking for a place for lunch, and this popped up on Waze. The service was friendly, the ambiance soothing, the prices reasonable. The menu is a bit limited, compared to the places in large cities, but the food was good, if somewhat surprising. The tuna sushi seemed to be made from a pate of tune , rather than freshly sliced fish, but it was good, and tasted right. A bento box, a pot of tea, a quick trip to the clean restroom, and we were back on the road in less than an hour, fortified and satisfied."

"Great lunch specials! Excellent price for the amount of food and quality. Pretty empty on a weekday and easily assumed to be closed from the looks. Owner said they’ve been around for 20+ years, must be doing something right to stick around for so long and keep the prices low."

"I wanted something healthy and light for dinner. It's been a while since I've had sushi, and this hit the spot. The avocado salad is just, of course, avocado with only iceberg lettuce. I thought it would have been more like the green salad I ordered as well. So, I just put the two together when I ate it. Always love the ginger dressing and can't get enough of it. The spicy crunchy salmon roll is the star for me out the 3 rolls I ordered. I loved the taste with a little wasabi and sauce. You got to love it. The other rolls were good as well. So, I will definitely be trying other items on the menu."

"I went here for dinner tonight with my wife, my wife 's parents, and my two kids (3 year old and 1 year old). I wanted to treat my in-laws to a fun hibachi dinner as my nuclear family enjoyed our first time dining here a few weeks prior. Tonight, I made a reservation for 5 pm for 6 people, and they sat us promptly at 5. We initially ordered a hibachi dinner for each adult, an alcoholic beverage for 3 of the 4 adults, and two appetizers. The waitress asked what we were ordering for my 1 year old and 3 year old, and I said nothing specifically for them as we will just give them some food from our hibachi dinners and appetizers. She told us that we needed to order at least one kids hibachi dinner between my 3 year old and 1 year old. I was very surprised by her response as I felt that we ordered plenty to be seated at the table without having to order for my young kids specifically. I mean how much can a 3 year old and 1 year old even eat? In the end, I didn 't want to argue or make a scene so I ordered a steak hibachi kids dinner for my 3 year old and 1 year old to split (all this food eventually went into a to go bag as, not surprisingly, practically nothing was eaten). As the dinner went on, we ended up ordering a second round of drinks for the adults so our ending bill comprised 4 adult hibachi dinners, 6 adult beverages, 2 appetizers, and 1 kids hibachi dinner. After the bill was paid, I told our waitress that I really did not appreciate her forcing us to order a dinner between my kids. We spent more money per person than the other couple at our table who just ordered a hibachi dinner and a soda. I informed our waitress that I have 3 other hibachi restaurants within the same proximity as Yamato and that it 's a real shame to lose a customer over a kids hibachi dinner, especially because we ordered plenty of food and drinks even without the kids dinner and also because the restaurant had plenty of open tables and seats while we were dining. It 's a shame because the food is actually pretty good and our chef was great."

"Tiny and cute restaurant in the heart of the town of Metuchen, NJ. Definitely, it is one of the best sushi place around NJ area. We ordered miso salad, then sushi spicy maki combo. In addition, we chose sashimi, which was pretty unique. Even though this sashimi was a thick cut, it was literally melting in your mouth. Another thing I want to point out is that I am not a big fun of wasabi, but this one had a lighter color and it was not as spicy as the ones I previously tasted. On a side note, customer service needs to improve their smile skills. Sushi Suzuki was overall a good experience."

"This review is specifically for the sushi bar at the restaurant. The sushi was decent, but not exceptional. It may be considered average or slightly below average compared to other sushi options in the area. The rice was overcooked and not well seasoned, giving it a mushy texture and lacking flavor. While the fish was fresh, the ratio of rice to fish was off with too much rice. Overall, the sushi was decent but somewhat bland. There are better sushi options available in the area. Perhaps the hibachi experience at this restaurant is more favorable."

"3/10 Disappointing. Our date night was a fail. Sold out of Sapporo Asahi beer, so I didn’t drink. We tried gyoza (good), yellowtail (good), tuna (ok), California roll (ok), chicken pad Thai (bad). The chicken was oddly slimy and served cold. They reheated it and then asked if I wanted a new one. I said no, manager comped it for us. Both my wife and I didn’t feel well when we got home after eating here. The only thing keeping this place from a one star was the server who was super kind."

"We ordered carry-out. The presentation was nice, and the food was ready when promised. I could tell the hostess was very busy, but not offensive. She was just down to business, which is fine. I understand what it's like to work under pressure and under staffed, which must be the case since there were only three tables with people at the time. We had a few of the large special rolls plus some basic nigiri. It wasn't terrible, but the fish tasted heavily preserved. The rice also had a pre-prepared flavor, like day old made into an approximation of sushi rice, but without the usual light, background vinegar flavor. The rolls didn't have much in the way of spice/flavor either. The prevalent flavor of the rolls was that restaurant-style heavy mayo and not much else. The eel sauce used on one of the rolls was very sweet and almost tasted like Teriyaki sauce."

"A solid spot for noodles and sushi! The special rolls were flavorful, and each piece had its own distinct taste. The fish appeared to be quite fresh. The ramen was good, but I found the broth to be a bit lacking in flavor. I particularly enjoyed the cha siu pork, which was tender and well-seasoned. The green tea fried ice cream was outstanding. The Crab Rangoon was decent as well—a lovely, crispy bite filled with a good amount of filling. I did feel the prices were a bit high for the crowd we were with. Overall, it’s a pretty good place! I will definitely come back to explore more items from their menu."

"It was my first visit to this restaurant, and I was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was pleasantly quiet, which added to the overall experience. Our waiter, David, was exceptionally friendly and professional, making us feel very well taken care of. He was one of the best waiters we've ever encountered—charming and warm. "With so many sushi restaurants in the area and competition for customers I am trying to understand why a courteous patron wouldn’t be treated with respect and hospitality. As I sat eating my meal I watched the table beside me receive attention from the wait staff. Several times the waitstaff visited the table next to me and every time they walked right past my table without ever asking how my meal was, if I needed anything etc.. I was completely ignored and I began to feel that because I wasn’t Asian like the individuals sitting next to me or the table across the way said table across the way received attention from the wait staff) I didn’t matter. At the conclusion of my meal the waitstaff silently placed the bill on my table and not one of the wait staff made eye contact or said thank you. It truly was uncomfortable and awkward. Giving three star rating for the food because the food is deserving of such a rating. Giving three starts for the atmosphere because it deserves as such. Giving one star for service because of the lack of engagement and lack of hospitality."

"We arrived at 8:20 PM when the restaurant was practically empty. However, as soon as we were seated, we were rushed into ordering, with the server informing us that the kitchen would be closing in 20 minutes, despite the restaurant advertising a closing time of 9:30 PM. We ordered some kitchen entrees and the all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi. The kitchen entrees were just okay, but the real letdown came with the AYCE sushi. The portion sizes were embarrassingly small—more like baby food than a meal. I tried to overlook that since it's AYCE and I could order more, but I was mistaken. When my plate finally arrived at 8:55 PM, I discovered that the sushi bar had already been closed down, everything wrapped up, and the chef had taken off his apron and was ready to leave. I had to specifically ask for more, and all I could get was spicy tuna with no other options offered. It was utterly pathetic. I have no intention of returning to this place, and honestly, I would not be upset if it closed down. Oh, and did I mention that the fish tasted stale? I'm actually bracing myself for potential food poisoning."
