"My wife and I wanted a nice laid-back place to sit outside and enjoy a fun dinner. We ended up being very disappointed by the service. Our server took about 10-15 minutes to get to the table (which feels like an eternity when you are waiting to order beverages). They took our drink order and quickly returned with a cocktail and waters but the beer we ordered was delayed by a few minutes. Not a big deal, but then the night went south. We didn't see our server again for a very long time. We started to feel like our appetizer was a little delayed when food runners showed up with our entrees. No app in sight. We let them know and eventually the server brought our app. But we were halfway into the meal by that point. The food tasted fine. Nothing extraordinary but not bad. The nachos, I admit, were delicious. The mac and cheese we ordered was described to have bread crumbs but was missing that. Fortunately the server had it taken care of pretty quickly. We were never asked about having our drinks refilled. And after eating, we waited a long time for our check. It just seemed to take forever for everything. None of the problems by themselves would have been a big deal, but together it added up to a somewhat unpleasant experience. The server was nice and apologetic. They also comped us the appetizer which was nice. May have been an off night or maybe a new server, but I can't say I would recommend going on a Saturday night. Also, we did enjoy the outdoor seating area. It was a little tight, but the ambiance was nice."

"Hi Bombay was recommended to us as the Portland restaurant for Indian takeout and we ordered Samosas, Naan, and several entrees. Our order was ready and waiting upon our arrival, and I mentioned that the weight of the bag, alone, might be a good indication of what was inside. When we returned home and unpacked the bag-of-goodies, we found generous portions of Saag, Tikka Masala, Aloo Mutter, and Dal nestled away in their plastic containers, along with cartons of rice. All of these had their own delightful flavorful sauces. And, it was the sauces, that filled the greatest volume of the entree containers. Were there sufficient ingredients in each for sharing? Yes, if one had anticipated a small portion of proteins without the sauce. Was there sufficient sauce for each dish? The answer to that question is that there was more than enough sauce. In fact, the containers in which we placed the leftovers were filled with a greater volume of sauce than the ingredients around which the entree was based. This was particularly true for the Aloo Mutter where not even one whole potato appeared with a handful of peas and the Lamb Saag. In retrospect, we had expected a balanced ratio of sauce and ingredients but came away with a number of unbalanced dishes. Was it good? Yes. Were the entrees worth the price of admission? In today’s market, Hi Bombay’s entree prices are in line with other Portland restaurants which are in the medium $18-$23) range. We will let you be the judge about whether these prices reflect what appears on the plate."
