"Now, onto the less favorable aspects. My brother-in-law and sister opted for the tableside Caesar salad for $18. What was served was merely a mix of romaine lettuce, croutons, and Caesar dressing—not even close to the classic Caesar salad experience I was expecting, which typically includes coddled eggs, anchovies, and toasted croutons prepared at the table.
We also ordered wine from an extensive wine list. Shortly after, our waiter returned to inform us that the selected wine was unavailable. I chose another bottle of equal value, but the manager soon came by to say that this one was also out of stock. At no point did anyone suggest a bottle from the same vineyard as a substitute. After three attempts, we finally managed to get a bottle of wine. While having a large and diverse wine list is commendable, it would be even better if the wines listed were actually available.
On a brighter note, the sides we ordered—gratin potatoes and asparagus—were very good. The crème brûlée we had for dessert was among the best I’ve ever tasted.
In summary, Great Oak did not meet our expectations, especially considering the entrees are priced at over $40. Whenever I dine at a "fine restaurant," I assess whether I would return, and my answer for Great Oak is a firm NO."
