"During a recent trip to Whidbey Island, we visited both Island Cafe locations - this one and the one in Oak Harbor. When I'm on vacation, I always look for a restaurant that serves a delicious traditional American breakfast, and this place does a pretty good job at that. The restaurant is clean and welcoming, located on a downtown street corner with a charming seaside town atmosphere. We were promptly greeted and seated by a new, eager, and enthusiastic young woman, and our experienced server was friendly and pleasant. After looking through the extensive menu of diner favorites, I decided on a ground chuck steak cooked medium, with hash browns, two eggs over easy, and white toast. My companion opted for a veggie omelet with a side of sausage patty. The food arrived quickly and met our expectations. The portions were generous, the hash browns were flavorful, and my eggs were cooked just right. The ground chuck steak was likely of the food service variety, but it was well cooked and I enjoyed it with some A1 sauce. According to my friend, her omelet and sausage patty (which seemed to be frozen) were decent, but not outstanding. The total bill for both of us was a bit higher than expected, but still reasonable for the meal we had. Overall, the breakfast was satisfying and better than what we would have gotten at Denny's or Shari's. I had hoped for the food to be a bit more unique or memorable, considering it's a locally owned establishment, but for a typical diner breakfast while traveling, there's really nothing to complain about at the Island Cafe."
