"We really like El Rancho here in Snowflake. The green chili cheese crisp has been a family favorite since I was a kid and my wife and I try to stop in at least once a month to share one together. The Hot sauce and chips are unlike most Mexican restaurants but in a good way! The recipes haven 't changed in nearly 50 years and we believe that 's what has made El Rancho a success. That being said, I wish I could give a 5-star rating, but I can 't because the entire restaurant needs an uplift. 50 years of the same might be good for a recipe but not for a building! El Rancho is time for a makeover. Get a real front entry with a door we can bring our wheelchair bound friends in with us! Tables, chairs booths need real help! I know, If it ain 't broke... but it 'll pay off if you reinvest in your restaurant!"

"That was my friend and my first visit to this restaurant, and it was a fantastic experience. Our server was exceptional, taking the time to explain the restaurant's concept and recommend the best dishes. The food and drinks were amazing! We also had the opportunity to meet the owner and the general manager, and we are definitely planning to return next week. We've enjoyed every aspect of this place!"

"The service at this restaurant is unfortunately very poor, and the management leaves much to be desired. They are unhelpful and seem more focused on their own interests. If you experience an issue, they refuse to admit any wrongdoing. It appears that they only offer good customer service to certain customers. When I inquired about a situation that occurred, management responded dismissively, saying, "Don't play with me just because I'm black." This is completely unacceptable behavior."

"I visited around 2:30 PM and inquired if the buffet would have fresh food. I was assured it would. However, once I sat down, I noticed the food was cold. I informed the waiter, who was chatting with the only other occupied table in the restaurant. He checked the buffet and told me, "No ma'am, it's hot." I went back to verify for myself, only to find the rice hard, the fish lukewarm, and the chicken cold and tough. I only managed to eat one plate. I also tried a small portion of another dish, but it was extremely lukewarm to cold as well. I brought this to the waiter’s attention, and also asked to speak with a manager to express my dissatisfaction and concern. Unfortunately, no one has returned my call. For a $14 meal and a $4 tip for poor service, I learned a valuable lesson: I won't be coming back."

"We made a reservation for 7 people, arrived on time, and they had no table. When we arrived, the hostess said they were setting up a table up for us. After 20 min. of waiting, the manager said they had lots of big table reservations and since we were the last they didn 't have a table for us. During our 20 minute wait time we noticed that they sat two people at a table for 10. They have a sign that states only full parties would be sat . When I asked her about why there were two people sat at a large table, and our whole party was there. She said they showed up early. There were also small parties being seated. Once again, I inquired why small tables were being sat instead of putting them together for our party. After lots of back and forth, she managed to set up a table for us. The food was good but not a level that I would say, I have to go back . The service was good and the atmosphere was authentic. Won 't go back."

"This restaurant isn't really set up for a comfortable dining experience. The menu seems to mix various cuisines, leaving me unsure whether it's Dominican, Colombian, or Venezuelan. "Yesterday, I had a terrible experience at that restaurant. I walked in, said hello, and nobody even acknowledged me for about 10 minutes (despite the restaurant being empty). I had one headphone in and had been talking previously, so I initially didn't mind waiting. However, after a while, one of the two ladies working there decided to yell at me to order, and then in Spanish, said I couldn't hear or understand her when I didn't respond immediately. This was incredibly rude and I felt uncomfortable, so I left after they began talking about me. It's a shame because there was no reason for such hostility in an empty restaurant. I will never go back there again. They need to do better."

"Bangin! Everything was incredibly flavorful and tasted like it was made with love. If you want proper Latin food on the island this is the spot. Right when we walked in the owner/staff were very friendly and helpful. She gave us samples of everything we wanted to try to help us decide what we would like to order. The pork/rib combo was my favorite, the chicken was delicious as well. Our plates were massive combos of yellow rice beans, pork/rib and chicken with sweet plantains. I don’t know how I managed to almost finish everything but it was too good not to. We were also given their home made hot sauce which was spicyyy (for me at least) and packed with a punch of flavor. I couldn’t leave without trying their tres leches, and it did not disappoint. Sweet but not too sweet, with hints of spices coming through. The best part is that it was sitting in the delicious dessert soup so you can soak the cake in for more flavor. They also have a new Nutella tres leches I will have to try the next time I visit. And their Dominican sodas are very tasty and a bit less sweet than Jarritos."

"Update 2022They really improved things. The Caribbean chicken is still good but they're using smaller pieces then they used to. The rice with pigeon peas is excellent. Service is a lot better. The beef stew is soft now but it doesn't have a lot of vinegar like carribean food usually does.update 9/2019My last 3 delivery experiences were terrible. I received plaintain raw still part pink inside, i eat green Banana (guinero) often this times it seems like it was slow cool boiled not water. I requested garlic for the tostones when I recieved my delivery I was told I had to pay $1 for that. Why not just charge it as a side. Plus I only needed 1 which would have been .50 cents. the meat was excellent. I think the issue is on Sundays Mexican workers may mot be familiar with caribbean cuisine. Its an issue in a lot of Dominican places in the Bronx, Sunday food is not as good. There is a smart mouth Dominican guy every time I speak with him I know there is going to be a problem. I called to check of my order was received he could have just told me to come down with an extra dollar. I locked myself out accidentally to get the food they never ring a bell no matter how much the tip or how many parking spaces. the tostones were replaced with more raw and oily soggy plantain.Nicer atmosphere than many for dinner to sit in. But like most food is a a little inconsistent. Today my half roasted chicken is usually dry. Today it was not. My experience is to avoid the beef guisado... dry. I often get the caribbean chicken. Its usually the safest consistency. Better than Steven's (sorry).UPDATE: 11/13/18 I appreciate the owner response. I look forward to going there more and trying more food. I had stopped going there for like a year. So maybe everything not just the chicken has improved. I look forward to changing this review in the near future...now that I have had 2 great dishes recently."

"So I would like to just share this story with the world so that maybe the good deed that the great people at Spanish Island did for me tonight won't go unnoticed and maybe it will cause them to have a few more customers than they normally would because it is rare to find the type of kindness or any type of kindness for that matter in business establishments these days when it comes to not having money. So basically I've been wanting to get myself some stewed beef white rice and some beans for quite some time now and I will be leaving the area for about 3 months at the end of the week so I made sure I made it over to Spanish Island to get myself what I want it now mind you it's a very rainy day today and I've been up all night packing so I'm just very tired and exhausted well I go into Spanish Island and I let them know that I wanted to pay with a prepaid Visa gift card that I received from doing an online survey I didn't have the physical card I only had the numbers expiration date CBV etc and they told me it wouldn't be a problem well I forgot and didn't realize that I spent some money off the Visa and didn't bring any other forms of payment with me and there wasn't enough money on the Visa after me trying to figure something out for tops maybe 2 minutes The kind amazing and huge hearted female that was working the cash registered told me not to worry about it gave me the food and handed me back the money that I gave her that I pulled from out of my pockets and bag which was about four bucks maybe a little less and she said don't worry about it well I promised her that tomorrow I would bring the money for the food and rest assured I will bring that money and some extra for her but this is something that I've ran into similar situations in the past and never as an establishment done that for me so I've always had a pleasant experience with these people their food is always great it's just all around a great place to go and get something good to eat and be around warm-hearted caring human beingsKid-friendliness: These people are kid friendly dog friendly cat friendly rock friendly car friendly these people are just friendly and great people go see for yourself . "I should have taken the hint when all the prices were blacked out on the menu, but the rotisserie chickens in the window looked so tempting that I was eager to try some Dominican food. Once inside, however, the staff made a spectacle of ignoring me while they served others, and after taking my order and payment, they proceeded to quickly serve several other customers. Eventually, 15 minutes later, they returned my cash with a dismissive "Sorry, Sorry!" and informed me that they didn't have what I ordered. The experience, despite the appealing food display, left me feeling unwelcome, as if they didn't want me as their customer, which was quite frustrating. Fortunately, I discovered Industry City just a few blocks away, where I found plenty of great food options without any of the awkwardness."
