"I recently dined at BSC with three girlfriends for a night out. One of my girlfriends and I met earlier than our reservation to sit at the bar and sip a cocktail and take advantage of the $1 Happy Hour oysters (which I understand are for a limited time so go while you can! . The bartender was very friendly and the cocktail was delicious. They graciously offered to transfer our bar tab over to our dinner bill, which we declined and settled up there. As for dinner, the food was excellent. We all shared bites and each one was beautifully balanced and presented. The dinner service, however was lacking. I've been to many small plates places in Portland, and one of the things I love is being able to graze. However, when I ordered my first course, I was encouraged to order my main entree as well per the kitchen's preferences. This made me feel like they're interested in rushing people along. While I can understand this, as it IS a small dining room, I don't like feeling like I'm expected to eat and get out, especially as it wasn't even completely full at that time. And because of this, I didn't even finish half my large plate as I was satisfied after my plum salad. We then asked the waiter to split our bill, which we admittedly should have thought to mention at the start but is also a familiar request, and it visibly put him out. As someone who has waited tables, I felt that there was definitely a way he could have handled it better. Based on the food, though, I would still highly recommend to a friend. Looking forward to going back and having a quiet dinner at the bar some night, and the brunch menu also looks fantastic!"
