"When we arrived, the hostess greeted us warmly. While we were waiting, we mingled with the other patrons. We were seated in about 10 minutes, which wasn't bad considering the after-church crowd. Once we were at our table, our waitress brought us water and some corn muffins, which were delicious. We ordered fried pork chops, collard greens, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and a side of red beans and rice. I was feeling lightheaded from my blood sugar dropping, so I was eager to eat. However, this was the disappointing part: I asked for an extra muffin, and the waitress politely told us that it wasn't allowed. Surprisingly, she did bring us more muffins after explaining their portion control policy. We waited nearly 25-30 minutes for our food to arrive, and by that time, I was really hungry. The food was well-seasoned, and the green beans received rave reviews from my dining companion, although I wasn’t a fan of the red beans and rice. As we were finishing up, we decided to order a slice of chocolate layer cake. We informed our waitress, but then we waited because the serving staff couldn’t cut the cake right away. We ended up waiting for the owner to finish setting up tables and welcoming guests before we could get what we wanted. After a significant wait, I asked the owner, "Can we have some cake?" She replied, "You want it now?" I managed to stay composed while pointing out that we had wanted it 15 minutes ago. At that moment, I thought that perhaps if customers spoke up, it might lead to improvements. I understand it’s her name on the building, but the level of micromanagement seemed to leave the wait staff feeling on edge. Overall, our waitress was wonderful, but the front of the house definitely needs some improvement."
