"Went here for a fish fry. Had a somewhat mixed experience... The highs: Fish: My wife and I both had the 3 piece cod fish fry and the fish itself was very good. Pieces were fairly small, but since the meal came with bread, soup or salad, fries, and coleslaw, we were both full afterwards. Coleslaw: Or should I say COLESLAW! Wow! I read an earlier review which I thought was pretty strange... Someone commenting on the coleslaw, of all things, which is usually just a pretty unexceptional complement to a Wisconsin fish fry. Don 't know what they do with theirs, but it lived up to the hype. Fantastic! Tartar Sauce: Thought this was very good as well. Not as much of a standout as the slaw, but quite good. The middle of the road: Fries: We had the regular and sweet potato fries. They were just okay. My preference was definitely for the sweet potato fries, but they would have been much improved with a dipping sauce. Turns out that my wife discovered that the tartar sauce for the fish went really well with them. Wish I 'd known that from the beginning... Salad: What can you say... Iceberg lettuce, a slice of cucumber and a couple of grape tomatoes... They did have blue cheese dressing, however, which (in my opinion will elevate an otherwise underwhelming pile of vegetation. : Soup: My wife thought the clam chowder was fairly good (after adding a generous sprinkle of salt , but I didn 't really care for it. Seemed a little thin and short on clams. The not great: Drinks: I saw some mention in previous reviews of people enjoying cocktails here, so I passed that along to my wife, whose go to drink is a Cosmopolitan. She ordered one. Something deep in my gut, however, made me go with one of their draft beers instead of my more typical Perfect Rye Manhattan. This was a good choice! Our drinks arrived and our food orders were taken, the server left, and my wife looked at me and said, What the hell is that? . It was a pale drink, in a martini glass, with a couple of olives in it. At first, I thought that maybe she 'd been served a martini instead. But then she tasted it and told me that I 'd probably like it because it was sweet. I tried it and it was like nothing I 'd ever tasted before. Certainly nothing like a Cosmo, that I 've made myself for my wife dozens of times. To me, it tasted like a mix of very sweet wine and vodka. No sign of cranberry juice or an orange liqueur and the olives?!? Who garnishes a Cosmo with olives?!? To my wife, the drink made for a fairly unobjectionable combination that she managed to finish (after I took the olives off her hands , but in no way was it a Cosmo! Service: Okay, I have to start this by saying that our server was very nice, very apologetic about all the delays, but... well... there were the delays and irritations. They started when entering the dining room... where there was no signage telling us whether we should wait to be seated or just seat ourselves. Luckily for us, someone saw us pretty quickly and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. Okay. But by the time we left, we saw people waiting, uncertain, for several minutes before someone told them to sit anywhere. I 've got to think that a simple sign would greatly improve a customer 's first impression... Next was the overall slowness of service. I 'll leave out the details here because the cause was pretty evident after our waitress told us it was her first day as a server... Like I said earlier, she was very friendly and apologetic, so we 'll give her a pass. However... in the abundant time the slow service gave me, I kept an eye on how service was going for everyone else... and it didn 't really seem all that much better than ours. Maybe it wasn 't just our server 's inexperience? Final impressions: If the service and drinks were up to the standard of the fish and its accompaniments (coleslaw! coleslaw! coleslaw! , this could be a regular stop for us for a Friday fish fry. Unfortunately, with so many good competitors in the area, not sure if we 'll be coming back just for the exceptional coleslaw... At least until we run into another 2 hour wait at Kegel 's Inn (which is just down the road ... :"
