"There are some decent pizza places near Eagle Rock, but unfortunately, none deliver to my area in Glendale. So, I’ve settled for mediocre pizza more often than I’d like to admit. I used to order from Pizza Hut every week, but a few weeks ago, things took a turn for the worse. It started with an 85-minute wait time on my online order, followed by a rude phone call saying, “Hey, we’re out of dough, so we can’t sell pizza. Your order's canceled.” Just like that! I wondered who taught this guy English and if he knew how to treat a regular customer. I was left without any dinner plans, which was frustrating.
So, I set out in search of a new pizza place and remembered seeing Hungry Howie’s. I decided to give them a call. The staff was friendly, and after I explained my previous experience, they offered me a discount and suggested I try their “flavored dough.” I’ve had many types of pizza before, but flavored dough was a new concept for me. After checking their menu, I decided to skip the onions this time and opted for some unique toppings, including cheddar cheese, pepper salad, pineapple, and mushrooms.
To my surprise, the pizza arrived hot in about 20 minutes—faster than I expected. And here’s the best part: it was genuinely great! Not just okay, but really tasty! The flavored dough reminded me of a good onion roll, the cheese was high quality, and the sauce had real flavor—something that’s often missing in so many other pizzerias. The cheddar added a nice, subtle kick to the overall taste. While it’s definitely not the same as Ray’s Original in NYC, it’s one of the best chain pizzas I’ve had (and they apparently have over 500 locations). I’ll probably order from Hungry Howie’s again, at least until I hear that they’re “out of dough” too.
Just a note: I’ve given them 5 stars in the context of nationwide pizza chains, rather than comparing them to independent pizzerias. Pizza is serious business for me, and this is simply a convenient way to satisfy my cravings."
