"Restaurant: Wait for the food was long, but nothing too concerning. Ambiance is very chic and modern. Nice looking furniture, although chairs weren’t too comfortable. Food: Tasty fare. But dishes weren’t hot—like, at all—when the food came out. That was a shame because otherwise it’d been an excellent dining experience. The naans were good, but chapatis were a little chewy and greasy. The chicken curry, goat curry, lamb curry, Chole, and Bhindi masala (okra) were all tasty and just the right amount of “spicy.” But neither the breads nor the dishes were piping hot (as they need to be for Indian food) and that took away from the taste. The chicken tikka masala was ordered with much anticipation but failed to live to the bar. Overall, it was a decent experience. Will probably go again—but will be sending my food to be reheated/bread remade if it comes out lukewarm/cold again. If you’re paying over $50.00 for two meals (drinks not included), not too much to expect that the food be hot when brought out."

"Chaska is a comfortably lit, quiet restaurant where the owner pays attention to every detail of the food and overall experience. After a strenuous workout, I decided to treat myself and satisfy my hunger by randomly choosing Chaska. I ordered the Chaska meat platter, one of the pricier items on the menu at around $21. The platter consisted of well-seasoned and perfectly cooked chicken, fish, shrimp, and kebob. They substituted the shrimp for lamb, which they had run out of, but everything was delicious. The bathroom was spacious and clean—a rare find—which nicely complemented the enjoyable meal. The restaurant has ample space for several parties, allowing for social distancing, so I felt comfortable removing my mask. There are plenty of other dishes on the menu, and I’m likely to return to try more of their cuisine."

"arm candy (his self-selected designation for purposes of these reviews) and I have eaten three times here. in regular nights this is an ordinary Indian restaurant, good, but nothing special. But if you can make it on Wednesday evening to nawab for the vegan buffet, they are for a tasty egg. there are 8-10 dishes for choice and they are all good. some of the dishes are dinge that I have never noticed on the menu of an Indian restaurant and I have eaten in a few. the bedroom is clean and well equipped. the buffet is about $20. hc doesn't let me nawab give me a five-star rating because it's not quite vegan or vegetarian, but know that the buffet is a five-star affair."

"How do I start to review this establishment? We have never before made reservation via Open Table to a place that literally didn't know how to run their restaurant. We showed up to an empty restaurant with no one greeting us at all. After a short time, someone finally came up to greet us but didn't know anything about checking in with Open Table reservation. After a lengthy explanation, he still didn't understand what we wanted them to do. It was obvious that he doesn't even know what Open Table is. We gave up trying to get our reservation checked in. I truly think that there was a language barrier. Aside from the empty place, we do agree that the food was delicious. The same gentleman who greeted us was our waiter as well. It took awhile before he even came out to take our order and equally as long before our food came out. By this time, we were SO frustrated to even try to enjoy our food. After taking the first bite, we were surprised that it was very delicious and packed with flavor. The whole time we were dining, no one came by to check on us. The mango lassi came half way during our meal. I believe he told me that they didn't have any to begin with. At that point, I asked how can an India restaurant not have mango lassi. He must have noticed that I was bummed out and must have went out to get a batch from somewhere. Again, we waited a long time before the waiter came and gave us our bill. So, to sum this up, empty restaurant, need trained personnel and management on how to run a restaurant and finally, be prepared to wait. The plus side is the food was good. Needless to say, we will not be back!"

"Ambiance was decent and wait staff was good. Other than that nothing else I can say positively bout this placeOur meals were luke warm, blend and some of the sides had no taste to them whatsoever. While they have a bar and there own cocktails if you ask for something not on the menu, u probably wont get it. And yes, unfortunately even the cocktail drinks we did order tasted horrible. Bad bar staff..On top of all this, it took them almost an hour for them to bring our food out. Two kids meals, a chicken plate and crab cakes. I was very upset to say the least.Stay away. Go to Perry's Steakhouse next door. Exceptional food, service and bar area."

"I live near Manas and have dined there frequently. Today, during lunch, a Black man complimented me, and I responded by thanking him and telling him he was “a class act.” However, a Russian woman nearby at the buffet seemed to interpret this as an insult, believing he had no class. She followed me to my table, repeatedly called me a racist (despite my being white), told me to get out, grabbed my keys from the table and threw them at me, and ultimately spat on me. Management did nothing to intervene. Although I have supported local businesses and enjoyed dining at Manas, even hosting dinner parties there, I felt frightened, isolated, and overwhelmed as six staff members, including the man who complimented me and the woman owner, stood by and watched as I was attacked by this clearly disturbed woman. I am disappointed and ashamed of my experience at Manas."

"We decided to try this place while here in the area for a while. I'm not familiar with Indian food in general apart from really basic things like chicken tandoori and samosas so I decided to try this place out with my family. I got the chicken tandoori rice bowl in mild. Sadly, it was still way too spicy for me so I wasn't able to eat much of it but it tasted good and was prepared nicely and was a decent portion size. My husband had the szechuan chicken rice bowl which he enjoyed but even as a spicy food lover, his was still pretty hot for him. My son had the chicken tandoori burger which he ate about half of and of course he finished the fries that came with it. The cocktail samosas were amazing, I had the majority of them lol. The last thing we had was the masala fries, which again, were good but a little too spicy for me. I think if we tried this place again, I would have to go there and ask questions about the food instead of ordering online for pickup."

"Gem of a place. Kind of hidden up on the hill among a bunch of other stores. Great selection of menu choices. I really wanted some goat curry and they had an excellent version of it. Meat was not too chewy and at the same time had enough bite in it.Sometimes goat curry is just a mess of bones and some meat morsels but these had really nice delicious morsels of goat in it.The Jeera basmati that came with it was wonderfully fragrant with just the right amount of spices used to cook the rice. Ireally enjoyed the rice. Just wished the portion was bigger. Loved the chicken lollipop, slightly different flavor profile thani am used to getting at other places but deliciously crunchy and flavorful. The garlic naan was a slight disappointment. It wasthicker than i thought it should be, hard to chew and swallow. It did have a nice char to it. The meal itself was a little onthe expensive side as the portions were smaller than most other Indian places i have been too. Update oct 2021: I asked if mgmthad changed but they said no. the dishes are definitely different, menu also looked different. No more chicken lollipop. Thebasmati rice was also different, bland and just plain rice. The madras curry i had was decent, nice gravy with some coconut andgenerous lamb chunks."

"I ordered takeout tonight and when I got back to my hotel and opened my vegetable platter, found out that it was some sort of meat platter. I called and talked to Rita and asked for either a refund or to have the vegetable platter delivered to me. She said my only option was to bring it back for an in-person refund or they would make me the correct order. I stated that I was already sitting down with my family to eat and didn’t have time to drive back so just wanted a refund. They screwed up and expected me to drive back over to pickup the correct meal??? Rita would not let me talk without cutting me off even after I asked several times to stop interrupting me. Terrible customer service on Rita’s part and it’s too bad that their employees don’t care enough about making sure their customers are happy."

"Murky daal, murky customer experience. Ordered simple daal and roti for take out. Picked up order without issue only to later find that the container was only 1/2 full. Further, the daal was watery and tasteless. When called regarding the issue, I was offered a complimentary daal to be picked up. I requested they deliver. 1 hour later, the Manager, Dolly (who I later find is actually not the Manager but helps with delivery brings the daal to my home. She presented herself professionally, took responsibility and stated we missed the mark. But, then she returns to my home (past 10:30 pm now! to pick up the old daal to show to the Chef. When asked how is she going to correct this situation/experience, she offers a refund and a call back the next day by noon w/ feedback from the Chef. No call back, no refund. I call 1 week later to check in regarding the feedback, I am then routed to call the Owner. Owner Kashev acknowledges that the daal was not made to their quality standards and the container (which he has still kept in the refrigerator eek! was in fact not filled appropriately either. When asked why did he not call me the next day with an explanation or apology, he responds he was too busy. When asked about the refund that was offered by his manager , he asks me if I genuinely felt it was needed now. Further, he says his system cannot do refunds, you may return to pick up your check. I decline the check as I perceived that he genuinely felt it was not warranted since they were able to remake it (he says he made it himself the second time . All I wanted was an apology, for them to follow through on their statements, and know that in the future quality will be assured. Zayka and their management missed the mark several times I gave them ample opportunity to correct the simple mistake and each time they blundered."

"I've been a fan of Mela Tandoori since its previous location in the Tenderloin. My friends and I enjoy the wide variety of choices, the quantity and quality of the food, and the great service. Its location within walking distance of Civic Center performance venues is also a plus. Parking along Golden Gate Avenue east of Van Ness Avenue has never been an issue for me. Mela is a great choice for delicious and healthy Indian cuisine!"

"that was my first time to eat here. the lamb was juicy and moist. it was seasoned until perfection of the rice was very well cooked. I've never had Indian food, but now I'm living in and going back to this restaurant. these are the real restaurants out there that try to thrive and make it think small nut and pop restaurants deserve their support. places like mcdonalds are far too big for their own good and greedy. but eating here is worth it and it is worth coming here. if they are looking for a place to eat in this area, they come here, take it from a first time customer who will be back. if they are not sure whether they trust me like Indian food, it was my first time the lady sitting on my table was very polite and very pleasant and very nice. eating here is great that they don't starve. these people are the material of the small business."

"We ordered Orange Chicken and Chicken Lo Mein. The Orange Chicken was incredibly juicy, perfectly flavored, with a delightful tangy aroma and an exquisite delicacy. The orange flavor was to die for—so unique and authentic! As for the Chicken Lo Mein, it was simply the BEST I’ve ever had. I couldn't stop eating even after I was full! We loved it so much that we had leftovers for breakfast the next day, and we couldn't resist going back for dinner that evening. Yes, we returned the following day! This time, we ordered Crispy Chili Chicken, Veg Lo Mein, and Beef Chili Dry. The Crispy Chili Chicken was just as good as the previous dishes—very crispy, dry, and perfectly seasoned. The Veg Lo Mein was also tasty and packed with vegetables, though I preferred the meat options. The Beef Chili Dry was wonderfully juicy and tender, with flavors that were perfectly balanced. In the end, we met the owner to express our appreciation for the fantastic food. He told us that the restaurant is run by a Chinese individual, and that he took over after the pandemic, potentially maintaining the original recipes but adapting them slightly. Let me just say—this is THE BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT EVER. The dishes are authentically made and unlike anything you've tried before. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! It's worth noting that we visited this restaurant two days in a row. I would rate it a perfect 100/10!"
