"Today was my first visit to Brar's. The front window of the restaurant proclaims in foot-high letters that they have a lunch buffet 6 days a week. You are meant to take this as an inside joke. There is no buffet. Maybe there used to be one before COVID changed the world, but there isn't a buffet now. Laugh move on. I don't claim to be any sort of expert on Indian cuisine, so I asked our waitress what she might recommend. She suggested the thali since it has a variety of items so you can sample a few things. We got the non-vegetarian choice. When it arrived, my inexperienced eye told me this wasn't very much food. I wasn't very much correct. It was plenty. My lunch partner took some of his home. I don't think I will be eating again today. We were offered a spiciness level on a scale of 1-6. I've had experiences with Chinese restaurants where I ask for spicy, no really, extra spicy, but what I get instead is bland I have to kick it up with some hot sauce after the fact. So I was hopeful that 5 would do the trick here. It did. This lit up my taste buds quite nicely. I have friends who would run screaming from this but I loved it. With the sorry state of affairs in the world as it now is, it must be a tough go to keep a restaurant operating. Over the course of our lunch, the place got maybe half full. I'm perhaps being a bit generous with that estimate. It's a shame. This place deserves to stick around for a long time. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious food. Not McCookieCutter slop. Go there. You'll be glad you did."

"had to bring it down 1 star. my last time i was there the spic was severely lacking. i asked for Indian spicy and the server made sure i wanted it that spicy and it came out 0/10 spice. i had to ask for them to make it spicier but they did not remake the dish they just added hot sauce. HOT SAUCE in an Indian restaurant unbelievable. i sadly will not be back unless i dont find a place that is actually spicy. the only reason i rated 4 of 5 stars on atmosphere is not even your fault. there was a table of 5 ungrateful people sitting across from me who just kept complaining about their food. how it was too spicy or had specific things or was wrong. the old lady was so rude along with the rest of her family. the main man was telling her the food is not spicy at all and that her order was correct. the old woman just admitted to just not liking it. people need to think before they go out to eat. and when they were asked how everything was they all said good. spineless. they are so annoying that i am tempted to ask to sit elsewhere. i LOVE indian food and have been to almost every restaurant in st louis area and House of India is the only place that meets expectations in every category. service is nice and friendly and knowledgeable, the food is always fresh never frozen. the decor and music is very much Indian. terribly sorry that HOI has to deal with customers such as that party of five."
