"If you enjoy dry carrot cake with minimal cream cheese frosting and an abundance of nuts that are as crunchy as trail mix, then this restaurant might be the right choice for you. It appears that they prefer to use whipped cream instead of buttercream for the outer frosting, which I find unappealing. While I love whipped cream, using it as the primary frosting feels cheap and lacks flavor. You'd be better off grabbing a slice of carrot cake from Susie Cakes, Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, or anywhere else, really. Even Ralph's offers a better option—just $3 a slice, allowing you to save $6 and leave with a smile after enjoying a moist piece topped with a generous layer of delicious cream cheese buttercream frosting."

"We have been twice in the past 2 weeks ... which describes how much we love Metro 8. The porcini mushroom noodles are my favorite along with steak and tuna. The vegetables are always so fresh and cooked perfectly. The salads are crispy and properly dressed and the wine list is huge and delicious. Perfect for appointments, girls' nights or special occasions. Correctly priced for the top notch food you get. Better steaks than Angus Barn, better pasta than Maggianos and much cheaper. The terrace is our favorite dining room, but the tables inside are super romantic. We will no doubt be back soon. Great service, fantastic atmosphere, top bar and wine list and food in the region to celebrate small business ... all my favorite things! Parking is so much easier than downtown Durham and we love the taste of 9th Street. The desserts are fantastic and the coffee is delicious."

"Ordered fried tofu and what arrived was the blandest, soggiest tofu sitting in some kind of questionable gelatinous sauce. Way over priced to be inedible. Update: Based on the restaurant’s response to my review and the fact that I was probably just a cranky hangry mess last night I’m updating my review. Still wasn’t particularly satisfied with my food but they go above and beyond customer service wise. I’m sure the food is delicious dine in…take out orders are always tricky. "Mexicali offers an affordable, casual Mexican food fix in Bakersfield, albeit with mediocre execution on the actual cuisine. What the restaurant may lack in authentic flavor and cooking finesse, they compensate for with huge portions, low prices, and stiff margaritas that don't hold back on the tequila. Given the cheap prices and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, I would gladly return to this neighborhood favorite."
