"Farmacy is a small, independent eatery that emphasizes farm-fresh ingredients with a daily changing menu. While the menu isn’t extensive, it offers a nice variety of vegetarian and vegan choices. Their website encouraged making a reservation for dinner, so I booked a table for two at The Chef’s Counter. This was the area I had seen from the street when I parked the night before, right in front of the kitchen, where you can sit at the bar and watch the chefs at work. It’s a brilliant setup, and the perfect ambiance for a first date. Given that Glens Falls isn’t a particularly diverse small town, I wanted to select a place where we could feel comfortable as a couple with differences in age, ethnicity, and race. Farmacy was a fantastic choice. I arrived a bit early and was promptly seated. When my date showed up, I had already shared with AJ, the chef, and our server that I was on a first date, and they seemed genuinely excited. AJ even said, “You look familiar.” I joked, “I was parked right in front of the window yesterday evening in my orange Hellcat.” Prior to my date's arrival, I had already enjoyed a pint-sized gin and tonic made with a lovely gin distilled near Fort Anne—who knew? When he arrived, he ordered a beer and asked if I wanted to eat. Of course, my appetite was ready. It turns out he eats like a little songbird while I devour food like a T-Rex. I mentioned, “I didn’t eat all day to prepare for this!” Remember the 80s when women used to nibble delicately in front of men, often ordering just a side salad for themselves? Those days should stay buried and never resurface. I was ready to eat—I’m an adult with a good appetite. The menu is broken down into small, medium, and large plates, with vegetarian and vegan options throughout. My goal was to sample as many different dishes as possible, so we ordered items from each section, including dessert. Everything we had was excellent, fresh, and full of complex flavors. I’d gladly order it all again, but let me highlight the Carnitas Tacos. I love tacos—who doesn’t? Unfortunately, I initially thought I couldn’t have them due to my dietary preferences, but AJ assured me he could make vegetarian or vegan tacos. I opted for the vegetarian version. The tacos I received were phenomenal. The masa shell was homemade daily, and they were packed with a delightful mix of veggies, salsa, and queso fresco. It was pure joy—good people, good vibes, and excellent food. I’ll definitely be back! As for my date, it had been quite a while since I went on one, especially after the pandemic, but it felt worth the wait—a pretty great experience overall. We even compared our “Badges” from Audible—it was his idea! We enjoyed delicious grilled asparagus and beet and black bean sausage—I could eat that all day! I even had some with a spoon, embracing my adventurous side. There was also a fried chicken sandwich with amazing fries—HUGE and excellent! And we shared the best roasted donut I’ve ever had, plus a vegan Tollhouse cookie with vegan ice cream—the icing on the cake!"
