"Such a sad evolution to see the Aquinnah Shop reduced to a drab and soulless restaurant with a scaled down menu from the last five decades of wonderful fare. Perhaps shell shocked following the pandemic, The Aquinnnah Shop has been stripped of all personality and distinction. Orders are placed at a take-out window and customers are asked to go inside to pick up completed orders. All of the early Gay Head memorabilia and historical artifacts that used to decorate the walls are gone. Photos of Aquinnah's Ann Vanderhoop and Luther Madison and others have been removed, as have most of the menu items that distinguished the Aquinnah Shop. The current menu can be found at any tourist stop, and the take-out cheeseburger I ordered last night was stone cold when I picked it up (because completed to-go orders are not kept under a heat lamp. One of the saddest changes is that the restaurant no longer offers breakfasts to the locals and the adventurous few who found themselves up-island in the morning. I know the entire Aquinnah community is saddened by the devolution of a once wonderful local food stop. I hope they will make their feeling known and steer the owners to return to the strategies that made this Vineyard treasure so successful. Note: no fried clams? No linguica? No pies?"
