"I had a horrible experience with Kitchen and Kocktails on 7/17. I went with a friend to celebrate my birthday. Wish I would have went somewhere else. Bad from the moment I walked in. The hostess had a really nasty disposition. They set us at our table shortly after our reservation time at 7pm. My friend and I conversed and by the time we looked up it was 7:30. No one EVER came to our table, not to even flip our glasses to bring water. We noticed other patrons that came after us already eating. I flagged someone down that was walking past us and she explained that they forgot about us as they were changing shifts. One of the biggest issues I had with that was, no one was considerate enough to even check on us and see or mention to someone else that we were just sitting. Now onto the food, I’d say it was average. I can’t attest to the cost as I didn’t pay for it. The lamb chops were good, but the Mac and cheese was kinda dry, the yams were good enough, and the greens were good. The drink was good, but they were sold out of what I actually ordered(which I’ve heard always happens). Also; In my mind, maybe it would not have been sold out had we not waited 30 minutes before being ever serviced. The service overshadowed everything for me. I had plans on returning next week to try other menu items, but I don’t think I will now. The food was not worth it in the end."

"A restaurant and music lounge that is both upscale and friendly on the wallet. After an eventful week, myself and a college came here to unwind after all the stress and emotion that hit that week, and we were not disappointed. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted and treated like an old friend. Brought directly to your table and immediately poured waters by the backwaiter. The staff gives you enough time to sit down, relax and take in the live music performance before coming over, Something that I really find to be a nice touch instead if bombarding you the moment you take your seat. The ambiance is very modern but yet feels very out of time. You can almost picture this place being around in the 1930s and not feeling out of place. Tables are very well maintained, and some even have very interesting sayings on them, ours, with a quote about sharing a drink as opposed to drinking alone. My friend kept it simple with a bacardi and coke for her beverage while I went for a simple sidecar. Both drinks were poured to perfection. The coke wasn't flat or offbrand like many other places, and the sidecar has just the perfect amount of sugar on the rim. Our server Romina (I hope I got that right) was beyond exceptional and really was not hovering or overbearing. Much credit to her for also letting me order the 28 chocolate layer cake on the sly! For food, we had done a bit of a family style ordering and kept it simple with a shrimp cocktail that consisted of the freshest shrimp I have ever had in NYC, from a place that does not specialize in seafood. We also ordered the skirt steak, which was bursting full of flavor and is cooked to perfection (seriously seeing a perfect medium rare is a thing of beauty). For dessert, as I said, we had ordered the 28 Layer Chocolate Cake, and it was magnificent. I mean, with 28 layers of chocolate, how could it not be? Overall, The Flatiron Room, is an institution on class, fine dining, entertainment, and ambiance. Will definitely be coming back."
