"My wife and I decided to get a fish roast for dinner last night. We chose one of us to get the fish, the other one to get the fried scallops, and then share. Man, that was a good idea. Everything was hot, crispy and delicious, except for my Makkaroni salad, that was not a big deal. And the service was friendly and fast. It was a beautiful experience after the pandemic for 2 years. "After the “I don’t want eggs but I really do want eggs” debacle, we found ourselves at the Kaukauna Family Restaurant (KFR) right there on Highway (technically KFR is on Crooks Ave I was still in “no eggs” mode and forced myself to look past the usual omelets and skillets into the more carb-heavy section of the menu. The Alaskan Waffle (vanilla ice cream on a waffle) sounded really good, but also pretty heavy duty for such early morning fare. "This restaurant is fantastic! We could easily walk here from our hotel. Although we were informed there would be a 20-25 minute wait, we were seated in just 5 minutes. The menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. Everything we ordered was delicious. Our server, Shannon, was outstanding—she was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. While the food was amazing, it was Shannon who truly made our experience memorable. I highly recommend this place!"

"This is the place you want in your neighborhood. I was visiting Airbnb down the street and I wish I had known about this place two days before our first visit! "I’ve been in Chicago for 4 hours, first time here. Booked a hotel near the airport. Went to the closest bar and they were closin down and they recommended Richie’s. We walked in and were instantly home. Found a spot on the back side of the bar and were served quickly. Halfway through the first beer Rich, the owner, came and sat with us and instantly bought us a shot. We stayed for hours while trading stories (mostly of NBA basketball as I’m a HUGE Utah jazz fan). Great bar, will go back in the morning before my flight and grub. Rich made us feel like family. Never thought I’d find southern hospitality this far north???"

"I wanted a big breakfast so I ordered the classic with a side of bacon and french toast. I also wanted decaf and o.j. It's funny because I drove past this place for years on my way to and from an old job and never have been inside. The breakfast is great, good atmosphere and I ate everything, when I got to the french toast, I literally said OMG! It melted in my mouth and was so good. Not sure what bread they use or batter but listen it's the best french toast that I've had. I asked for whipped cream. Nice little hidden gem. I will be back. They were pretty busy and I arrived late morning. Thanks for a great breakfast! the ladies there are very polite. I didn't look my best today and they treated me with kindness. Everyone was treated the same. If you haven't yet done so, please stop by to enjoy a meal."

"The food was average. I ordered jumbo shrimp and it was more like butterfly shrimp. The hot chocolate didn’t taste good when compared to other places I’ve been too and the sodas come in cans instead of glasses. The menu is huge with a lot to choose from and the server I had was nice. The inside of the restaurant was clean but the owners were fussing about the cleanliness right in front of me while i was eating."

"I recently bought breakfast here and the food is always very tasty and plentiful. During my last visit, which was an extradition of almost $50, I ordered a stack of pancakes I didn't get. I called back and the owner recognized the mistake and told me through the waitress, he would make my pancakes and I could pick them up that day. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it back because of work. I called 5/26/22 today to get her and was told that he probably wouldn't do her because I couldn't come to the day she wasn't put in my order. I was in my hand for 10 minutes when they asked him about it and then someone hung on me. I called back to a busy signal. Even places like McDonald's make your order a week later if you can't do it again. That was very bad and I'm not sure I want to visit this facility again. I let everyone know that the food is good, service is questionable if you don't get everything right. You can never get it."

"We usually have breakfast here once every weekend or so and I can't believe I've never posted a review. Corner family diners are a dime a dozen but A's puts most of them to shame. The service is really good and the food is really good.Hard to explain but it's the small details (e.g. eggs Benedict, the eggs are perfectly poached, the English muffins are perfectly toasted, and the hollandaise sauce has the right amount of zing). Their skillets are also recommended, really good portions and everything tastes fresh. I usually get pancakes on the side and they're never dry.Doesn't matter if you get Diane or Sam as a server, you'll leave feeling like you have a new friend. I definitely recommend A's for a really good, cozy breakfast. Parking: Parking in the rear, 15 or so spaces"

"My first time was good. The staff didn't seem to be in a rush to help even though they I was their second customer that morning. The food was great. But the second time, I was waiting for a while for service. Turns out there seems to be one person who takes the orders. I was told that two people take the orders but when I was asked another person who seemed to be waiting to work, she said the other was the one. I can understand why since the first time, I know she seems to only speak Spanish. The other two are older and more seasoned. I has ordered asked for service twice with waiting in between. The one who was supposed to be helping me was indeed busy with orders but was very slow on the cash register and then I asked if there was only one person taking orders they said two, so when the main service lady came over, I said that I had been waiting ten minutes. Of course I could have waited longer but it was so weird that only one person was the only one to take orders. She gave me attitude and then I just left because she said I just got here. But I had already arrived 15 minutes before and they had seen me come in and I was the only sitting up front. Of course local reviews outweigh mine. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2"

If you're visiting the island and this is your one chance to eat here, definitely order of their sets, as they come with a wide variety of items from the menu. You absolutely cannot go wrong eating here. Takeout is available for those unable or unwilling to wait to eat inside, but I highly recommend getting a spot in line. "What a wonderful blast from the past. This place reminded me of the small town cafe my dad would go to meet his buddies for coffee and breakfast. It is very local, you open the door and everyone looks to see who’s coming in, not to judge but to see which friend is arriving. Not filled with screen zombies, rather people talking about life and razzing each other. Might not be the atmosphere for everyone but it is for me. I’m lucky to live a few blocks away! The food, I had a 1/2 order of the garbage plate and a side of chicken fried steak. Wow, the chicken fried steak with their made from scratch gravy was unbelievably tasty and crunchy. So good. The garbage plate is biscuits with American fries and gravy on top and an egg crowning it. Again very tasty, the gravy is very good, thick and seasoned perfectly, egg cooked as requested and American fries lightly browned. Very satisfying breakfast. The staff were friendly and attentive. I felt very welcomed for my first visit. Happy I finally stopped at this gem of a cafe, don’t be put off by the reviews about feeling outcast if not local, I experienced none of that. This will be one of my go to breakfast places while I’m living here. Come on in and enjoy!"

"With my new strict diet restrictions, I was thrilled to see individual honey packets right next to the jellies. The homemade bread was fantastic, and the toast was exceptional. I have a feeling the staff could list every ingredient in their dishes, and you'd probably have them in your kitchen. As a personal challenge, I suggest buying a loaf of bread from the store and trying to read the ingredients. I kept the menu after placing my order to look for future meal ideas if I enjoyed my food. Their menu offers a nice variety without being overwhelming—no 200 extra items cluttering it. They excel in what they do, and I was impressed by the variety of honey options. They had plenty of items even my doctor would approve of. The egg options were great, and I had a delicious meal at an honest and affordable price—a rarity these days. Nina's is a hidden gem that has been part of the community for a long time. Be sure to check it out, and don’t forget to snap a selfie in front of the mural wall documenting Kalamazoo History 2024.
