"Gobble down your food quickly and get out was the overall vibe at this restaurant. I was excited to celebrate my birthday at a black-owned steakhouse I learned about from the Blaque Resource Network. The bartenders were courteous; the food was tasty. However, the waitress had a condescending tone and lacked basic customer service skills. When one of my guests inquired about pitchers of Sangria, she stated, this is a steakhouse, and we don 't do pitchers. Ricardo 's Steakhouse, Carmine 's, and others serve pitchers, and the environment was casual; this was not an unreasonable question. After her snide comment, we requested a bottle of Pinot Noir, which they did not have, and we were gracious about it and ordered Malbec. Furthermore, we asked for our appetizers to come before our main entrée, and all of our food came simultaneously. Our table was crowded and uncomfortable, given that space was already limited. While we were simultaneously eating our appetizers and entrees, they came with to-go boxes, and we still had about 40 minutes left in the time allocated for the table. Once again, we accommodated them and closed out the bill. We sat at the bar and spent more money, and then we were asked to leave as requested by the manager because the bar seats were reserved. I was disgusted and disappointed to receive such treatment at this establishment. Additionally, they did not have filet mignon or porterhouse steaks, which are standard at most steakhouses. Last week I went with my girlfriends to Blackstone Steakhouse; the treatment from the door to the table was superb. Here, the staff rushed to get us out of spaces reserved for parties that did not appear while we were there. Lastly, I want to remain hopeful that this restaurant will practice more grace and humility and less attitude and arrogance; it is a small establishment and should focus on delivering more quality service to ensure customers return. We could have gladly spent our money elsewhere for my birthday, an"

"I come to you today to point out yet another wonderful black owned establishment in our neighborhood! Nestled in a corner on Moreland avenue in the Chevron parking lot directly across the street from Value Village and American Deli is Magnolia BBQ andFish. Dameione, the owner, brings his southern hospitality by way of Houston and Mississippi to East Atlanta. You can certainlyfeel the love, and taste it even more, with his delectable dishes, bright cheerful smile and southern charm. I chose to dine onthe rib tip dish with a side of homestyle baked beans and creamy potato salad. He explained that these smokey, tender andperfectly seasoned rib tips are a recipe originally perfected by his grandmother from Mississippi. They were exceptional!!!Meaty, moist, tender and fell directly off the bone!! The side of vegan baked beans had just the right amount of sweetness andthe potato salad was reminiscent of backyard BBQs in the summer. Jameen had the fried catfish with french fries and also thebaked beans. The fish was fried to perfection and seasoned just enough to highlight the flavor. The french fries were also wellprepared with just the right amount of crunchiness and season. As a bonus we were able to try a not yet added to the menu orderof BBQ chicken nachos!! Smoked chicken nestled on top of a delicious creamy cheese sauce then layered on Dorito chips anddressed with Magnolia BBQ sauce. Let me just say I'll be glad when this officially gets added to the menu as it will probably beone of my repeat purchases going forward. All in all everything was perfect!! If you are looking for a good southernhome-cooked BBQ then look no further than right around the corner to Magnolia!!"
