"I went to this restaurant for Downtown Dining Week. Despite being on the $35 list, the service was well below par. There were long gaps between courses and plates were not cleared until the next course arrived. Our server seemed uninterested in our table and drink orders took a long time to arrive. We were not given new silverware and had to remove our own forks from the plate for the server to clear it. The food was average, nothing exceptional. These issues wouldn't have been so bad if they had not all happened at once, or if the restaurant had been on the $25 list instead."

"Exquisite food in a gorgeous old building. It was fun to look around at the fixtures and beautiful wood touches. Having said that, once seated with drinks....we were asked to move to a different table because of a big party coming in. Poor planning is not our fault! Our salads came out AFTER our entrees, one salad was forgotten, and one was wrong. Yes, they were very busy on a Saturday evening but we made our reservation for 5:00, hoping to miss some of the rush. Because the deep dish was so divine...we will consider coming again while in Chicago."

"Best bagels on the UWS. I see people here complaining about prices and wait times. Most of the time I don 't get my bagels with anything on them, which may explain why I don 't have these issues?I usually buy just the bagels, get cream cheese separately from the supermarket (or sometimes a 1/4 pound container of their specialty cream cheese, usually garlic herb), and perform the necessary procedures at home myself. This is the old Upper West Side way of doing things, dating back to when the old H H Bagels on 80th Broadway ruled the UWS. (The new one on Columbus 85th 86th belongs to the H H Bagels East company, which is different and not as good).The old H H sold both bagels and cream cheese, but would not assemble them together for you. You were expected to do this yourself at home. I guess I just got used to doing things that way.Anyway. Ever since H H closed, Tal Bagels has consistently had the best bagels in the neighborhood. The everything bagels are absolutely perfect, and they have whole wheat everything too.The staff is rude because they are relentlessly overworked and always exhausted. Please try to be patient with them, and consider maybe dropping a few dollars in the tip jar. The guys who show up at 4 AM or whenever to open are the same guys who close in the evening. On top of that, there 's usually only 2 of them serving customers, and the place gets pretty busy.This is also why the closing time listed here is not quite correct (6 PM every day? LOL). They close early as often as they can, occasionally as early as 2:30 PM on Sunday. Go as early as possible, and don 't count on them being open after 4 PM."

"I was visiting from out of town and decided to stop by this restaurant on a whim, looking for a place with good coffee and a welcoming atmosphere. When I placed my order, I met the owner Nick, who was incredibly friendly and engaging. It was the type of warmth you would want to experience at your neighborhood coffee shop. The coffee was fantastic, and although I had already eaten, I would have loved to try their breakfast menu as well. "I always see this place when I go to Aumm Aumm for dinner. Today I was in the area during the day and tried it out. Got the chicken cutlet, prosciutto, fresh mozz and a lil bit of balsamic. They toasted it up and it was absolutely delicious. Bread was crunchy outside and soft and chewy in. Cutlet was extremely flavorful but not over salted. Prosciutto was soft and melted on the tongue Mozz was not separated and greasy after toasting. Tasted almost like buratta. Everyone working was great. Joking with each other, a real old school vibe. Def coming back."

"I recently had a very negative experience at Cranford's Best, which I would consider the worst restaurant visit I've ever had, both personally and with my employees. I ordered two pork roll sandwiches, but only received one. When I brought this to the owner's attention, he insisted that I was mistaken and never ordered two. Despite his dismissive attitude, I remained calm and reiterated that there had clearly been a mix-up on their part. To my surprise, the owner continued to accuse me of being in the wrong. When I declared that I would no longer place orders there and that they had just lost a customer, he responded, “You won’t order from here anymore? Then I won’t send you your second sandwich.” I was shocked by his attitude, especially coming from an owner. Everyone in my office overheard the call, and we even recorded it to capture the poor service. If anyone knows how I can share this recording, I would love to do so. This experience has left a sour taste, and I cannot recommend this establishment. Avoid this place at all costs!"

The total: $36.I had to ask them to double check the price multiple times because I just couldn't believe it.The bagels alone cost less than $2, but the spread cost $14-17. It's really insane and not obvious pricing.You order first, so you don't know how much you're going to be charged until your luxury bagels are already made.As for the bagels, they were fine. Good. The service was fast. The people were nice. It was not worth $40. It tasted the same as your typical bagel anywhere else, but cost literally double."
