"We started dining here nearly 10 years. It was one of our favorite places from 2014 to 2019. It was always packed, very lively and the food and atmosphere were excellent! We stopped in recently, we were very excited to return! Sadly, our experience was nothing like it was in the past. It started with the waitresses less than welcoming approach, which was more of a tell me what you want, so we can get this started and finished approach. We ordered 2 coffees, she replies discouragingly with it 's instant, do you still want it?! We reply yes, when did it change? She says, it 's always been instant! No, not when Jesse was there. It was a fresh pot and you didn 't have to ask or pay for a refill. Our lunch comes, see photo. Folks...this is not true authentic Mexican shredded chicken enchiladas. This is boiled chicken rolled up in a tough tortilla with a sour tasting sauce and bland. I was concerned to eat it and Gordon Ramsay 24 Hour episodes were playing in the back of my head. The restaurant had maybe 3 booths filled, including ours. It was prime lunch time hours. No students to be found. Maybe 5 dining adults. One rude waitress. The enchiladas and rice were undoubtedly microwaved. We are told new cooks and La Casa has previously shuttered. I can sadly see why. Old food, not tasty, abrasive service. It was nothing like we experienced in the past. We were tempted to leave during lunch. I think the first major change came when Jesse left. He was the heart of La Casa!!! He ran the restaurant and managed the employees and interacted with the guests like it was his own restaurant. Sadly, it is all gone. We will never return. I don 't know how they are still open and the health department needs to check their kitchen practices and dates on food, storage and handling. RIP to the original La Casa that is no more. "Viva Great Food! We ventured out seeking some Tex-Mex for lunch in downtown Albany and decided to try Viva Cinco De Mayo (VCDM). I figured a 4.4 review on Google meant something and it does. VCDM offers a great variety of dishes including options for vegetarians, a few breakfast selections, and a dedicated lunch menu. We chose the enchilada and chimichanga platters. The enchiladas platter comes with three (the lunch menu offers two) and can be topped with any combination of their green, red, or bean sauce; we weren’t quite sure if you could mix the meats. Both platters came with sides of rice and black beans. My husband chose chicken as the protein and tried each of the different sauces. Served atop the sauces is a layer of finely chopped lettuce, a sprinkling of cheese, and a drizzle of sour cream. His favorite sauce was the bean sauce but said the other two were good. It was just something about the bean sauce which was a bit better tasting. My carnitas chimichanga came out golden brown with a side of guacamole and a sliced radish on top of the rice which made for a pleasant-looking dish. It came stuffed full of green peppers, onion, red peppers, cheese, and meat. I opted to leave out the green peppers. The only downfall to the dish was they may have doubled up on the red peppers since I asked to forego the green ones; the red peppers were a bit overwhelming. Aside from that, it was delicious as the cheese was melted and stringy and the pork cooked well and perfectly seasoned. We both thoroughly enjoyed the black beans as it seems they add a touch of cacao. They offer Mexican Coca-Cola by the bottle and free chips and salsa. They do quite a bit of take-out business which may have slowed the kitchen as it seemed like the food took a bit of time to arrive. The delay was not an issue, however, as we were sitting outside enjoying the nice weather and the food itself was worth the wait. Our server was quite pleasant and helpful, and the restaurant looks to be well-kept. All-in-all, we’ll soon be going back for more."

"My partner and I recently moved to the area, and we were skeptical about this local Mexican joint being that small, 'seasonal tourist town ' food often leaves much to be desired. We also haven 't heard many folks talk about Tony 's for some reason, so we overlooked it. After having lunch there yesterday, we are gonna have a hard time staying away! The place was slammed when we walked in around 1:30pm every table was sat with just 2 recently vacated. We knew it was gonna be good from this sign alone. We picked a slightly dirty table, but a lovely woman (I believe the granddaughter of the original owner) came over to clean it off promptly and bring us a cold glass of water. It was cramped but cozy and we knew it would be worth the squeeze at the tiniest table in the joint. We ordered the Mexican platter with an enchilada, tamale, and chilé relleno, as well as the carne asada taco plate on fresh corn tortillas. The enchilada was one of the best I 've ever had. I can 't really explain why it was so good, being that it 's a relatively basic food item most of the time, but I could 've easily eaten 30. I stole half the relleno off my partners plate as well it was definitely one of the best I 've had and we were delighted with every bite. We wished we ordered a pile of rellenos and enchiladas. The rice and beans could stand alone, that 's how flavorful and delicious they were. A bit on the salty side, but the rice is probably the best Mexican rice I 've ever had. I have no idea what they do to that rice, but it doesn 't taste like any Mexican rice I 've ever had before (in the absolute best way). I 'm writing this as I eat my leftovers and it 's somehow even better on day 2. I would eat it dry. The carne asada tacos were loaded with fresh pico de Gallo and guacamole all the fresh onions, cilantro, and lime a girl could ever dream of. The carne was light, juicy, and delicious. No gristle. Perfectly grilled and tender. It isn 't the best carne I 've *ever* eaten flavor wise, but the fixings on top and the handmade FRESH corn tortillas were enough to take it to the next level. I would order it again. The free chips and salsa were gone in 20 seconds between the two of us. Nice and spicy, not watery, and very flavorful without being too hot. One of my favorite restaurant salsas in a long time. We chatted with several friendly servers once things calmed down (in true T or C style). Our service was fabulous and quick, our food came out fast, hot, and fresh and was excellent and AFFORDABLE. Coming from Montana, this is a 10/10. My only complaint was that these guys need a bigger restaurant with more tables! If you are just passing through and looking for truly authentic new Mexican cuisine at an amazing price point with great service and turn around, do not overlook this spot like we did. It will not disappoint!"

"I have lived in the Ellington for almost 3 years which should tell you how much I've enjoyed the building in a very competitive DC housing market. It's conveniently located on 13 U, and is within 2 blocks of basically anything you need (metro, post office, multiple grocery stores, multiple drug stores, exercise classes, liquor stores, and restaurants! . The staff here are awesome Maya Cherie at the front desk, and Mike in the office are always friendly. The amenities are good a beautiful roof with 3 grills and lots of seating, and a large gym with plenty of equipment compared to other building gyms I've seen. The apartments are SLIGHTLY outdated in style, but I believe the building is about to start a renovation throughout. Despite the semi outdated look (think brown cabinets dark granite countertops in the kitchen, small tiled floors in the bathrooms , they are VERY sunny inside, have gas appliances, and some even have fireplaces. I also think this helps keep the price lower than some of the new buildings in the area. I've really enjoyed my time here and highly recommend the building to anyone moving to the U Street area. Also to note I face U Street and have never had issues with outside sound. I don't think I would live on the 2nd floor on the U street side or in a unit facing the restaurant Alero (under the building on front right side , as I would imagine those units would be loud, but on the higher floors I've never had an issue with outside noise."
