"Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed and invited to sit wherever we liked. Our server kindly suggested a larger table since we had our laptops with us, anticipating that it might be a working lunch. They brought us a round of water and a small glass of the house red wine—perfect for me since Greek wine doesn’t give me headaches. We kicked off the meal with hummus, which you definitely don’t need to ask about. I must tell you, it was perfectly smooth and blended with just the right ingredients, garnished with cucumbers, tomatoes, and a generous sprinkle of smoked paprika. It came with enough pita to serve three people, so there was no need to order more—and I could easily drink that tzatziki! For my main course, I opted for moussaka, which I had never tried before. It featured layers of eggplant, potatoes, and ground meat, topped with a bechamel sauce, and was served with peas and a generous Greek salad. The salad was enormous and easily shareable, so keep that in mind when ordering. You might consider selecting a different side and splitting the salad if you wish. I’m a big fan of eggplant, and the moussaka was fantastic! I will mention, though, that I’m not particularly fond of the bechamel on top; in my opinion, it’s unnecessary, but it does add richness and visual appeal to the dish. We also tried the shrimp kabobs, which are perfect for shrimp lovers. The shrimp were juicy with a pleasant smoky flavor and a hint of lemon. The rice complemented it wonderfully, and the vegetables retained a nice crispness. I had expected the shrimp to be served on skewers, but they were just as tasty nonetheless. I didn’t have room for dessert, but the baklava looked amazing, and I wish I had gotten a slice to take home! This meal was a delightful trip down memory lane for me. I truly fell in love with Greek cuisine during my time in Greece, and I hope to visit the country many more times in this lifetime and the next! So if you’re in Long Island, specifically Rockville Centre, make sure to check out Greek Town Authentic Greek Kitchen. The food is outstanding, the service is quick and attentive, and the prices are reasonable for any budget. And be sure to let them know the Unnerved Traveler sent you! Enjoy!"

"I was in search for a restaurant with Lebanese food and outdoor dining yesterday and found Shisha Cafe. They have an expansive covered outdoor area. I had only quickly scanned the listing when I first found it online and had known that this is more Iraqi-style Mediterranean cuisine. I started out with the rainbow smoothie which was fresh watermelon, banana and mango juices. So refreshing! My husband had the melon juice which was from a honey dew melon. The Mix Dip Plate was a great sampler plate with Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Iraqi Eggplant Salad, Jajeek and Labneh but I wanted to try Toom and changed out the Labneh for it. After trying this food, I feel that all the other Mediterranean food I had before didn’t seem as authentic or flavorful as this. My Lebanese mentor used to make Jajeek and this tasted just like her homemade version! I was a little worried with more food to come because I was semi-full already with the Mix Dip Plate. I had ordered the Lamb Tikka sandwich and my husband ordered the Chargrilled Chicken. He really wanted to try the Grilled Fish (Iraqi Magoof) but need a 3-hour notice on that one. I had a bite of the Lamb Tikka and it was tender and such flavor! It was not small at all as I had expected. More food to enjoy later. My husband enjoyed the Chargrilled Chicken but it was slightly on the dry side. I had the chicken skin so that was tasty. I save some room to taste test their desserts so we tried the Baklava, Basbousa (coconut cake), and Halawa Dihiniyya (Iraqi fudge). Everything was delicious! The Baklava was so flaky. There was so much dessert that we ended up taking the rest home too. We realized after the fact that we should’ve ordered tea to go with our desserts. Next time! Erica was a great server who patiently answered all my questions! This place is the real deal and is the best kept secret for authentic Mediterranean food! Shisha Cafe is also known for their hookah. Kababchi Grill next door is the same food, indoor seating only and doesn’t allow the hookah. Everything is halal here which is based on how food is prepared. No alcohol is served here or allowed on the premises. Honestly, I hadn’t missed it with all the great food, drinks and flavors!"

"While the place was rated very highly (4.8 stars on Google), I find it average at best. The two skewer dish that I ordered, one ground meat and one chunks of chicken (tikka) over or with rice, lacked flavor in the meat. You can definitely taste the over-the-charcoal cooking preparation, but the meat itself lacked flavor. It wasn't just bland, that somewhat gamey meat flavor came through (know what I mean And the chicken, although well prepared, was meh.The side of rice was interesting. I had upgraded it to biryani rice, which this was not. An argument could be made that this is an Iraqi-biryani, but that's a concept I'm not familiar with. It was flavorfully good regardless of what it was called. Had I not requested the side of garlic, and later some pickles (although as an Iraqi place they didn't know turshi the only sauce/liquid you got was from the grilled half tomato; which was surprisingly not charred.Again, the rice aside, very bland.Requesting Iraqi tea was probably the best judgment call I made during this visit. The cardamom black tea was good.If you tell them you were fasting (this visit was during Ramadan), right when you were seated, they served you one date and a choice of either lentil or vegetable soup. I got the lentil one. I guess it was their take on Iraqi lentil soup. It was good. Different. But good. The mint lemonade smoothie was not bad, but not worth the price. I should have passed on itThe service was done by two teenagers or very young adults. Considering that it was a full house right after iftaar (breaking of the fest) time, their hustle was commendable. Slightly above average service, but very personable if you actually talk to them as individuals; which was an opportunity I had after the rush."
