"I absolutely love the atmosphere in Cafe Madrid it does feel like you are in Europe. Unfortunately though, the food quality has been slipping quite a bit in the last years. First, I really don't like the fact that you are supposed to call a day in advance if you want to order paella I understand that paella takes more time but maybe they can offer paella of the day or something? Second, the menu choices were odd and not done in the best way. The Caprese salad (Italian) was lacking olive oil and basil and was bathed in balsamic vinegar, the Creme Brule (French) was more of a cake that was swimming in a pool of sauce and there was lasagna (Italian) in the menu but no paella?? From everything we ordered (two appetisers Caprese Salad and Lobster Bisque, two entrees Duck in mandarin sauce and Chicken with mushrooms and three desserts Creme Brule, Chocolate Mousse and Flan) the best was the wine and the mashed potatos which is kind of sad for the price. Plus not much really felt like truly Spanish recipe and presentation. Also, the service was very slow and chaotic but.. at the end of the day, unfortunately, there are not many better options as far as high end European cuisine in Salt Lake."
